Wife wants to do a weekend trip for her Bday in NYC. Any recs on some quality old school Italian restaurants, bagel shops and pizza or really just any great restaurants in general.

TIA

Go to the Grand Central Station Oyster bar for the Clam Chowder. Than take the Subway across town to Hudson Yards and walk The Highline. When don't with The Highline head over to Washington Square Park to people watch.

Also, stop in a Rudy's for cheap drinks and free hot dogs.

Pizza go to Bleecker Street and sit down at John’s and split a whole pie (they dont sell slices), dont eat the whole pie unless you really want to. Then walk to L’Industrie and have a slice, which is the best of the bunch. Then walk to Joe’s and a have a slice

Honestly define “great restaurant”

Because you can have a really great meal at Cosme, Rezdora, or Gramercy Tavern.

But then there are the Le Bernadin’s of the world that are in a different stratosphere. But you have to be prepared to pay for it.

I haven't lived in the city for a few years but here is what I liked when I lived there:

Italian:
Il Mulino (Downtown on 3rd street)
Bamontes in Brooklyn is super old school

Bagels:
Bagels and Schmear on 28th street was my neighborhood spot
Absolute Bagels

Pizza:
Mama Too's
Johns on Bleecker
Pizza Suprema right by MSG

No Italian recs. But get some electric citibikes and bike across Williamsburg bridge to Domino park. Get some other half beers and pizza from the place next door is legit.

Good luck getting a Don Angie reservation. I’ve tried in vain more than I care to admit.

Couple of highlights from some recent trips

Le Bernardin - simply incredible. Perfectly executed meal.
Minetta Tavern
John’s of Bleecker
Rezdora
Il Mercato
Jeju Noodle Bar

Couple of years ago tried getting into Don Angie’s by showing up about 15 minutes before opening, hoping to snag bar seats. There was a long line of people with the same idea.

Decided to walk over to Ci Siamo, Danny Meyer’s new place, and try the same thing. Was able to get last two seats at bar and we were not disappointed. Nice surprise was that Ryan, long time bar manager at Cure, served us.

Last year we put our name on the list at Via Carota around 6:00. Walked around the West Village and got drinks at Katana Kitten. Got text at 8:40 that table was ready. Great meal and sat next to John Mayer and Andy Cohen.

Still haven’t made it to DA. They recently opened a new Italian seafood spot, San Sabina, a couple of doors down.
