PRAIRIEVILLE - First responders in Ascension Parish are searching for a child who went into a pond Monday afternoon and never resurfaced.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said a child went into the water in the Keystone Subdivision around 5:45 p.m.

I can't imagine the pain these parents are going through right now.

It's not a big pond, really sad

Those ponds aren’t normally that deep.
How old of a child?

I don't know. The subdivision is located in Prairieville. It supposedly has 800 houses.

Supposedly, it is a boy, and he was in 7th grade.

The story is written like at least someone saw him go into the pond. I think we know the end result, unfortunately, but I wonder what the details are going to be - did he jump in and hit his head? Struggle to swim and drown? Etc

Gator? Just couldn’t swim? Damn, horrible.

7th grade and could not swim??? Weird. But it’s very sad.

If it’s a 7th grader then there is more to the story than falling in and not coming up…

I think it is possible, although by 7th grade, one might think not probable. But you never know.
Some kids may not have been exposed to the pool at an early age, which would make one question, why would they be swimming in a pond?

More people that can swim drown than those that can't.

I work with adults that can’t swim.

Gator?
Doubtful. Not saying it can't happen, but the likelihood of a gator being that big in a pond this size, and killing a person is not one of the first possibilities that come to my mind.
Not being able to swim, horseplay, a dare, etc. rank as higher possibilities for me.

This is what I am hearing. I know of the child's initials, but I am not going to post them on here until the story is confirmed by a news outlet as I am hearing the initials from my daughter, who obtained them off Snapchat.

Kiran says he was in a canoe that overturned. I wonder if he might have hit his head?

Cmon man
Maybe because people who can't swim don't go in the water.
How more people that can drive die in car accidents than those that don't?
Seems like simple numbers
