We are going to California this summer and are staying in Anaheim. We are doing the main highlights like Disneyland, Griffith observatory, Dodger game, whale watching etc… We would like to spend a few nights of our trip in a beach town close to the coast and after watching some YouTube videos San Clemente caught my attention. It looks beautiful there. Can anyone give me some insight on your experiences there?

The beach is nice, the town is ok, nothing special. It has some breweries including a Pizza Port location. You would be close to Dana Point and about 20 minutes to Laguna Beach which are both nice. Thousand Steps beach on the way to Laguna Beach is a really beautiful beach.

What Zappas said...might be cheaper than a Laguna/Dana overnight, but those are the areas I would go.

Sounds like you are making the trip with kids. I highly recommend taking them to check out the tide pools around laguna and Newport beach. My kids have enjoyed them growing up.

Depending on where you're staying the walk to the beach is easy, it's the walk back, mostly up hill, that sucks.
