Republican businessman Tim Sheehy won the GOP primary for Senate in Montana, Decision Desk HQ projects, as he looks to flip Democrat Sen. Jon Tester’s seat in the red state. Tester’s seat is seen as key to Republicans’ hopes of winning the Senate majority this fall.

I'm still surprised Montana has a democrat senator.

It really is quite absurd.

For some reason those people just keep voting for this guy.

His politics aside, Tester is about as Montana as it gets. That's going to be a challenge for a transplant like Sheehy. Tester also leans to the right on the issues a lot of Montanans care about.

Can you elaborate on this? I hear he’s “moderate” but I have NEVER seen him vote against DEM the party line. I don’t understand how he has survived so long.

He's ostensibly pro-2A, and voted against the DREAM Act.

Oh, and he supports hunting the wolves!

He's generally stuck to only voting with Democrats on gun legislation that is "bipartisan." To be clear, I strongly oppose his views on the Second Amendment, but he's not far off from a lot of Fudd Republicans.

He's also opposed big business in the state and has been critical of the federal government for enabling larger corporations pushing out small business.

Not insignificantly, he doesn't live in Bozeman.

Dude's still a Democrat and will get votes from the infestation we've seen from California and Colorado, but he's also to the right enough to get independents and Republicans who don't want someone like Sheehy for Montana.

Tester is outspending Sheehy like crazy. I see probably 8 Tester ads for every 1 Sheehy. They are pumping the message “he’s not one of us” hard and trying to show him as a multimillionaire liar who is just playing rancher.

The morning radio I typically catch on the way to work calls him (Tester) “Flip-flop Flattop”. Lol
I don’t think the primary numbers look good for Tester so I imagine the out of state contributions are going to increase and the ads get even worse.

Tester will have trouble winning with Trump at the top of the ticket.

I don't think Montana will elect Trump by 20+ points and then on the next line, vote for a Senator that will oppose Trump on everything.

Tester is an odd animal and should be defeated but you can count on Mitch McConnell to make sure Sheehy gets as little support as possible. He wants the Senate to stay blue. Maybe Lindsey will make a trip to Montana and propose some draconian abortion plan to help the Senate stay blue. No one wants the Senate to remain blue as much as Republican leadership.
