2025 baseball: What might the future bring

I'm going to do a lot of guessing about who might be on campus in 2025 and will certainly will be wrong on some. This will give us some idea of what the team might look like.
Catching: Milazzo and Travinski gone.
I think Neal has loads of talent, especially offensively and I expect him to be one of the top catchers in collefe baseball next year.
Priester is coming in the number one JUCO. Big bat and athletic. Still had a ways to go defensively when he was here as a freshmen, so we willl see where he is now.
Arrambide has a decent chance to make campus. "generational arm", "winner of national HR derby". Definitely some tools to work with.
Infield: Losing Tommy and my guess is Braswell will go pro. My gut tells me Jay will find a way to convince Jones to return but that certainly isn't a given. So we could have a lot to replace here with Milam being the only sure thing.
There are a lot of options at 1B, Frey, new comers Schmidt, Costello, John Pearson. Not to mention Larson and Brown. Both of those two looked good at 1B but Larson to me looked like the more polished infielder in the fall. I think we definitely go after a SS in the portal, especially if Braswell moves on. . I think we also pursue a 3B in the portal, but we have options. Fountain is a freshman that could make it to campus, with plus size and power. Gavin Guidry actually looked better at 3B than SS to me, if he can bring the bat around. Kucherak has the defensive talent but the bat is still the question mark with him. Lape who redshirted this year, is listed as a pitcher but was highly regarded at 3B coming out of HS.
Outfield: Most of the talent should be back here, with the exception of Bingham. Brown, Larson should both improve. Kling isn't a fan favorite right now, but he might be the most toolsy player we have and I certainly am not going to give up on him becoming a difference maker. I still like Frey in the OF but he could move to 1B if Jones moves on. Sucks about Mitchell hitting the portal, I thought he had a lot of potential. Curiel is a freshman that could make it to campus and have an impact. Highly regarded but stock is dropping. New comers Schmidt, Costello and John Pearson are also listed as outfielders and could bring that bat. I wouldn't expect more than one portal guy here and only if he brings the offense.
Pitching: Bringing Herring back would be huge. You also have to like the potential of Anderson, Cam Johnson, Moffett, Shores, Noot and Guidry. I like freshman Bateman and Rizy. Big boys that I think could contribute right away. Ware is also a JUCO that could contribute. I expect Jay to bring in about 4 new portal arms and hopefully they are top notch. Of course we also have more returning players that will contribute to the bullpen.
Can't wait to see what the portal and draft bring.

I’ll be there. Beer in hand.

For me Arrambide would be a huge guy to get to campus. Love that kid's physical tools and mental make up. Arrambide set the Perfect Game combine record for POP at 1.70 and tied for the best ever outfield throw at 102 mph.
Would also love to see Curiel obviously. Griffin, Schmidt (from Catholic), and Caminiti are looooong shots at best.

I think Daniel Harden is the replacement for Mitchell
Juco OF
Juco OF

Thought Brown was going back to pitching

Who knows with Brown.
Nothing stood out to me about JUCO Harden. Except that Jay loves lefties. Perhaps a late bloomer.

Questions for you, N2daWild...
Is Hurd coming back?
Ulloa should get more innings next year if he continues to progress.
Will Seo be ready to contribute?

I think Hurd goes pro. He should get a decent offer and I think he will take it. I hope he returns and lights it up. Would be big for him and us.
Ulloa will depend on what he is offered. I don't think he has a lot to gain by coming back but he might not have much to lose either.
Seo is about the same size as Dutton. He has a strong arm and reached 95 the one time he pitched in the fall. It seemed to me that he was throwing as hard as he could and the control wasn't great. I personally don't see him as a big contributor next year. I hope he proves me wrong. I'm going off of watching him one time, so small sample size. He is also a talented infielder.

Shores will be a weekend starter

What about juco incomer Tanner Reaves at SS? He has a great post season.
Posted on 6/4/24 at 9:01 pm to N2daWild
Thanks. I hope they all come back and pitch well, but with the portal, things change a bunch from year to year. They may not be missed as much if good portal additions are brought in.

Reaves probably should have been mentioned. HIs bat has a chance to contribute. I'm not sure he cracks the starting lineup but his potential is starting to show.

Where is that Arrambide kid ranked MLB prospect wise? Sounds like a generational type talent. Broke Perfect game pop time record? National HR derby winner? And 102 MPH from the outfield? The fk this kid come out the womb on steroids

If you were asking specifically about him playing SS. I don't know enough about him, but I don't believe his glove is SEC SS level.
Kilen, SS for Louisville is the hot name on the recruiting board right now.

Guidry will not play a position consistently at LSU. He does not have the stick

This is obviously anecdotal but Roeling posts a bunch of corny tik toks, and the fact that jay said they “hit on most of (this years freshman class)” makes me think that he is one of the guys JJ feels he missed on and will be gone next year/never contribute for LSU
