Sorry, I can’t keep up but outside of Larson and Milam, who’s coming back and what’s our future lineup look like?

Reason I ask is “draft eligible sophomores” was brought up.

Realistically I think we really could get Jones back. The problem you have is finding places for Frey, Brown, Pearson, Larson, Kling (if he returns). We will have to replace 3rd. Neal will be at catcher joined by Priester and possibly freshman Cade Arrambide. I would assume Braswell is probably gone as his stock rose as the season went on and he will lose leverage. Milam will most likely stay at Second so you probably need to get a transfer shortstop. If Kurachek is around he may be able to fill in there as well.

Edit: Milam probably sticks at 2

I don’t think so, I think Johnson used him too much this year for him to tell him to look elsewhere. He probably would have played more if not for the shoulder injury.

I don't know why anyone even attempts this so early on in the process. There are so many variables at play with players possibly returning or leaving. Then there is the draft. And then there is the transfer portal.

I am excited about the future though, so I do get the interest.

You would be incorrect. Johnson LOVES Frey. Called him a starter without a position.

I really don't think so. He matured so much as a batter this season and I think the MLB is going to covet him.

Kling will be starting in center field and batting 9th I think. Brown is going to be a great player for us, but I agree we need to find a spot for him on the field. Larson could get a look at 1B.

He's just such a natural second baseman, I'm not sure about this.

The core of this year's team minus Tanks will be a very good team next year. In three years JJ has been in the regionals all those years, his teams are 6 out of 7 for elimination games in the last two years and won a national title. They lost two generational talents off last year's team and still pushed for a regional title into the 10th of the elimination game against a team that probably had better pitching.

The glass is not half empty, the glass is probably 3/4 full; with some minor additions, this team could easily win a natty next year after these experiences.

I don’t understand why you think I said that we wouldn’t be good next year? I didn’t say anything of the sorts. Just stated the current position outlook.

I'm really excited about Brown, Larson, & Milam for next year. It would be incredible if we get Jones back, but I'm not expecting it.

I tend to agree on Milam sticking at second. Even though he played a little short this year, I think he is a better fit in the 4 hole. Supposedly we are recruiting the Louisville SS (according to Moscona fwiw). That would tell me Milam’s future will probably be at second. A lot can change from now until August 1 though.

I think he needs more reps. Hard to have a good bat in PH situations. Before his injury he was hitting the ball pretty well (against non P5 teams). I don’t know how much the injury has hampered him, but he wears a brace at Batting Practice in some of the videos I’ve seen.

I think you take a huge risk next season if you roll with Kling and Neal again. I hate to call out names but I’m not sure Jay can trust these two to take the next step. They showed no signs of improvement this year and I’m not exaggerating literally none.

It was enough that he couldn't play in the field, which pretty much limited him to only PH opportunities.

He was scheduled to go to the Cape this summer and play first base, but with the injury I'm wondering if they shut him down. It sucks because he needs more reps.

I agree. Kling is draft eligible, so I’ll be interested to see if he entertains that. I don’t think Neal is going anywhere unfortunately.

Without knowing exactly what will happen with the draft:

- Infielders: We need to get infielders. 3B is high priority. SS and 1B may be high priority depending on what Bras and Jones do.

- Outfielders: We're probably fine here. I still wouldn't pass up a stud in the portal, even if that means pushing Larson to 1B or pushing other OFs to other positions.

- Catcher: We're probably fine here with Neal, Priester, etc.

- Starting Pitching: We need another top end guy to go with what we will have back and healthy.

- Pitching Depth: Overall, we should be good here.

I wouldn’t assume that. Milam does not have the prototypical height/frame to play Shortstop. I don’t know that his natural build will allow him to have enough range.

He has proven to be a good 2nd baseman. I think Jay will hit the portal again.

I tend to agree. I will edit that portion.
