Full article if wanted but Ill outline anything worth knowing below

quote:

Sony Interactive Entertainment will host a State of Play on May 30 at 3:00 p.m. PT / 6:00 p.m. ET, the company announced. You will be able to watch it on YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok.

Most notably included in those 14 titles it does include (but not how many) are Sony 1st party titles that will be coming out in 2024. It will run for roughly 35 minutes.

Comment your guesses for games that we will see tomorrow some of mine are

Resident Evil 9 (Capcom) has shown all RE titles at Sony events since RE7)

Ghost of Tsushima 2 announcement with a very shot vague cinematic trailer

Phantom Blade zero with a release of December a few weeks before Christmas and a demo announcement of September (rumors suggest itll be closed and access via a lottery system)

As for first party games other than Ghost since Phantom blade is second party id say something Horizon Related is very possible since theyre obsessed with that mid as frick IP. Destiny Final Shape with a big gameplay trailer probs and MAYBE since SQE and the FF9 remake leaks and insiders suggesting its near the finish line id wager they have a contract with Sony for it despite them wanting multi plat in the future so id say 60% chance we see it along with maybe KH4.

That’s a good point and almost 100% true. Although I have major misgivings about Sony having the arrogance and gall to say hey but this “updated more capable ps5 machine” when they’ve fricked up this generation terribly only saved by xbox being so so terrible they have to be doing it intentionally. Sony isn’t making anywhere near enough 1st party games and I do give them a bit of credit for for seeing this and making efforts to offset it with 2nd and 3rd party titles most recent and highly popular examples are Rebirth and Stellar blade but frick them im not buying their scam until they pump out more high quality games and make full use of the current ps5 abilities

Lol I’m 34 it’s not a young kid thing in my experience. It’s an internet thing almost any millennial who grew up on the internet would know. Anyway can’t wait to see what they show us later today, to in all likelihood be completely underwhelmed and something comical happening where the 14 supposed titles they’re showing end up being like 11 VR ones.

I think the problem is Jim Ryan forcing their first party studios to work on live service games only to go "whoops, this isn't working."

That said PS5 Pro seems so bizarre to me considering Xbox has the Series S. Multi-platform titles will be forever hamstrung by the Series S, and I'm sure developers just love having to develop for 4 platforms now instead of 3.

I’m not tech wizard by any means but a layman’s reading of the pros apparent upgrades all include mostly from what I can tell are the things the ps5 itself is now already capable of doing. Maybe the upshot selling point is it is capable of doing it more seemless in some manner or the theoretically higher grade tech makes it easier and faster for devs to introduce them into the games shortening insanely long AAA dev timelines to produce? Idk but I won’t be purchasing one.

And I still think Sony won’t learn from the debacle launch of the ps3 and price this thing insanely around 800$. What will truly piss me off if they have the balls and insane stupidity to make something like Ghost 2 only available for ps5 pro or something

I’m 36 so maybe it’s a two year thing but I thought “mid” was a Gen Z thing

Resident Evil 9 apparently accidentally went on pre order early on Play-Asia. An Asian collectors company similar to limited run games. The title is Resident Evil 9: Revenant Shadows and has Leon on the cover. You can find pictures floating around but Sony and Capcom are striking them down ASAP. We will definitely see it’s unveiling today at State of Play. It also only showed and advertised PS5 preorders which is odd since I find it highly dubious capcom would limit it exclusively to the ps5 which they’ve never done before and I doubt it will now. I’d be shocked if they allow it to go to gamepass day one though and insist Xbox users purchase it. Gamepass provides literally no incentive to massive devs like capcom who just recorded their 7th straight year of record profit. It’s great for smaller indie teams and devs but does nothing but cost companies like capcom cash even though it’s amazing for customers.

You mean the games announced at state of play? I posted a few posts up it could very well be but Sony has been taking a fair amount of public backlash recently with the helldivers 2 account linking fiasco and increasing more scrutiny for the lack of 1st party games on ps5. You could well be right but I don’t think Sony can afford another massive dud at the moment.

Honestly I expect a fairly solid showcase with some very good and exciting 2nd and 3rd party titles like RE9, Phantom Blade Zero, and maybe any remnants of contracts with SQE before they go fully multi platform. If they simply show Ghost of Tsushima 2 with a release window of winter 2025 like Rebirths was I think it’ll be enough to subside 1st part title concerns for now

But considering this is a state of play and not a 90 minute Sony showcase Carson you could well be correct. I do expect at least one major highly anticipated 1st party title to be revealed though and that is almost certainly going to be Ghost 2 since it has been in development for about 4 years now and the PC launch was a massive success. A movie is coming out around Christmas based on the 1st one and a 2025 window of January- March would be amazing brand synergy these companies get rock hard for.

Since they specified at least some VR titles would be shown and that’s likely their most anticipated PSVR2 title id say your hopes are likely to manifest somewhat. I wouldn’t hope for a release this year though

On the offshoot since it is their most popular upcoming VR title but likely not coming till 2025 they might opt for summer games fest

At least one of the 14 games has already announced or revealed and it’s Astros playroom 2. I liked the 1st it’s a fun platform game but make of this what you will regarding what we might think of the anticipated games that might not appear. It will have VR functionally so that’s one strike beer jeep
