Was the ninth inning delay about Brown leaving early from second?

I was there and didn’t think he left early. Glad to get that win!

I’m not polished on this rule so correct me if I’m wrong but why wouldn’t klings run have counted? Brown wasn’t a forced out and kling scored before they even checked brown at 2nd. The ball was thrown into the 3rd baseman and then they checked (or tried to check?) at 2nd. I believe the run would have counted but the inning would have ended for LSU

A few things.

1. It’s technically not a force out because the runner is only out IF there is an appeal and the bag is touched with a player holding the ball. The run would have scored and counted even if there had been an appeal and he left early from 2nd.

2. The reason there couldn’t be a review is because SC never appealed to second base to make the umpire make a call one way or the other. Instead the pitcher took the ball and got back on the rubber making it too late to appeal. Since they didn’t appeal and step on second base with the ball, there is nothing to review.

Guessing they didn’t show it on TV but USCe actually did appeal to 2nd. The pitcher was pointing to 2nd and whoever had the ball eventually threw it to 2nd. Ump ruled him safe.

Tag ups are not force outs. They're called timing plays. Any runs scored before an out is made for not tagging up would count.

I think Brown seemed to get to third quickly for a couple of reasons. 1. He is fast and was running full speed expecting a strong throw. 2. The fly ball was so deep that, instead of being able to catch it with his momentum going toward third base, the left fielder was falling away against the fence. Consequently, he had to gather himself, set his feet, and then throw without really being able to put his body behind it. All in all, I think the left fielder did a good job in getting it in, but all of these things took extra time so it created sort of an optical illusion that Brown got to the bag quicker than normal.
