I dont think you’re far off. I think the goal was to keep people seeing how bad Hunter and Joe are without actually doing anything. Going after Hunter too hard could make people feel sorry for Joe.

He left the laptop where it would be found. He exposed the corruption of his family and the twisted life that he led because of his dad’s “activities” when they were kids.

They just wanted to get a better understanding of the template used. With Hunter being the smartest man Joey knows, their corruption had to be a teaching moment for the GOP. Soon thereafter, lots more aid was sent to Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, etc.
They will always scratch each others back until we end it.
