Chief of police? Why wouldn’t we just continue to use the sheriffs office like we been doing?
Because its now a city. EBPSO is responsible for the unincorporated areas of the parish. This is the part where everyone's taxes go up for a redundancy of services.
I also find it appropriate that the first mayor comes from the same fire department that the city was named after.

The EBRPSO will still continue to serve the city of St George.
Just as they do with Central.

Hopefully, it will be offset a bit by reallocating the tax dollars St. George residents were paying to help fund BRPD while not receiving those services.

Did you just wake up and start reacting to things. This has been clearly laid out in almost every press conference by the StG organizers. Chief of police is required by law as a liaison for the sheriff and the city. The sheriff will continue to patrol the area of St. George as they do all other cities in the parish if necessary. BR has a police department so they rarely are needed there.
St. G could use surplus funding to expand or supplement the Sheriff's role - could.
