Because this is exactly what the dad believed had happened. How the frick is he supposed to know the guy is an Uber driver? All he sees is an old baw pull up with his daughter in a Nissan Altima.
Uber is a fricked up business. People figured out decades ago that taxis need to be marked and licensed. Somehow Uber believed that moving away from this model was a good idea.
Again, I will say that Uber needs to ban minors from getting rides. Anyone can call an Uber to pick up anyone, so it's impossible for anyone (other than the driver) to verify it. And evidently Uber does not make their drivers check IDs.

This might be relevant if the guy was, in fact, an internet pedophile. Hell, pulling him out of the car at gunpoint and holding him until the cops showed up might have actually been legally justified (not sure how the law reads in FL).

How is he supposed to know? Well for starters, because the guy presumably told him. After all, the dad demanded to see his Uber information while illegally detaining him. You don’t get to hold someone at gunpoint because you’re suspicious of them. Or in this case you can.. but be prepared to face the consequences.
