It is on CBS-C right now just wondering if Paul Johnson would be hire as head coach at LSU what would you think. I am not suggesting Les be fired, this is just hypothetical would this be an accepted offense at a top 5 program in the country.

He supports a gimmick offense. Not a fan.

You do realize that this offense is one of the classic football offenses, right? There's nothing gimmicky about it. If it is executed correctly, it is very successful, if not, it can be shutdown completely. Just like every other offense.

One of the rare times I can actually say I really Laughed Out Loud when I read that....

What's so damn special about it, then?

Very few people use it.
Thats what is special. You don't see it every week and as soon as the spread offense becomes the standard (which is happening quickly) it too will be defensed better.

Little lesson for you. Do you honestly think schools like the Naval Academy are better than teams like Notre Dame? Navy gets recruits on par with average DI-AA schools. How do they play up so well? Their offense is a clock management scheme that also wears down the defense, rarely turns the ball over, and requires discipline to stop. You people who think we will roll GT are gonna cry during the game.

It's not used very much, so coaches have less previous material and knowledge to base their defenses on, and the personnel that today's defenses use doesn't match up well with it. That said, you will see defenses in the ACC start to figure it out over the next few years. The schools that play GT every year.

I think it balances out because while they may get more accustomed to it, GT will recruit better players for the system.

I disagree. It was "new and exciting" when he was doing it at Navy *cough cough wishbone cough* and it was dealt with quickly. GT won't attract a higher caliber athlete than what they already do. This is just one of their years to shine.

Yeah because PJ didn't win any less than 8 games a year since 2003 between Navy and GT and break a 44 year losing streak. I guess it was dealt with quickly.

I agree. For the bowl game, we will have a month to get ready for it. And we definitely have players that can run this in the scout team, hell our real team

By teams that really mattered, yes, it was. You keep believing that it's better than sliced bread. PJ will be selling his snake oil to a sub-ACC team here in a few years. I'd put money on it...

Keep on thinking that our defense will magically be awesome against a well disciplined team while they are still being coached by the same guys who let other teams put up 50+ on us twice.

Well Milehigh said we will shut them down in the bowl game, so I guess we are.

I won't respond to the Paul Johnson replacing Les Miles part of the question, but I will say that I'd be suspect of an offense that basically ignores the passing game. Sure, it's worked for Navy and it worked pretty well for Tech this season, but in a league with defenses as fast as the SEC, allowing them to key in 95% on the run doesn't sound like a recipe for success. Also, I'm assuming this kind of offense would not appeal to a lot of talented QBs and WRs, sort of limiting our recruiting options.

They beat UGA at home but thats besides the point.

Still had 1100 yards passing in a run oriented offense. The thing about the passing game is they only use it sparingly because when they do use it you aren't expecting it.

JL almost had 1900 yds passing. I guess that's impressive in your books?
