Window Unit VS King Snake

My son turned on the AC in his room and it starting make a hell of a noise, after further inspection I discovered a now deceased King Snake. It’s wrapped around the fan 3 times with more to go on both ends. The question now is how in the world do I get it out? The AC has 4 screws on the outside but after taking them it out I still can’t get inside of it. This wasn’t on my list of possibilities today.

Be safe and burn the whole unit/house.

That was also my wife’s first reaction, LOL. After I got it untangled my 11 year old son grabbed it to throw it in the woods and I think she almost passed out.

Those are supposed to be sealed from anything but insects, I'm wondering how it got in there in the first place.
ETA: I'd replace the whole unit. They are not that expensive. Start a go fund me and I'll kick you ten bucks.

the screws you see along the bottom have to come off, as well as the screws on the sides for the window frame bracket, because those screws go into the metal backing plate for the fan motor to mount to.
most covers screw on, or the unit slides into it like a cabinet.
go watch a youtube video if you still cant get it off, but you just got to see where it doesnt move, and find that screw
i had a residential a/c unit literally hopping off the ground because of the same thing, had a snake wrapped around the fan blade shaft. it was an old york tombstone unit (because it looks like a tombstone) and that was the raunchiest shite i ever smelled and then i had to try and wash the guts and whatnot off of the coils.

Got a sharp knife? Cut it into smaller pieces

As a kid we had some friends and their parents over for several hours one afternoon. They got in their van to leave, and it started squealing to the point it could be heard probably all over the neighborhood. He cut it off, popped the hood, and found a mess. A big chicken snake had made it's way up into the engine compartment and, apparently, wound itself around the serpentine belt or near the fan because it was cut in three or four pieces. Ol' baw drug out as much of it as he could, but they said by the time they got home and everything got hot, it wasn't a good smell. I imagine the musk contributed to that.

Mice and rats hang out near AC unit compressors because it’s warm. Snakes follow the rodents for a free meal. Snake was in the wrong place at the wrong time

That’s what I was thinking. It’s between two huge swamp plants (that’s what I call them) that will slice you open, yet lizards love to hang out in them. I guess a King snake will eat a lizard, I really don’t know.

That thing looks like it was built in the 1940s/1950s. How old was it when you took that picture?
Probably lasted a lot longer than anything you can get nowadays too!

they were very reliable, and they were a breeze to work on
i think they stopped making tombstones around the mid eighties but many lasted a good 20 years after that
