Tornado warning for the Athens storm has been extended into Madison County. Includes most of Huntsville.
This has me concerned for some family members. We also have some posters over that way.

8:58pm Tornado has been reported just south of Ardmore, AL and moving eastward. SEEK SHELTER NOW!
If you are in a TORNADO Warning SEEK SHELTER NOW. These storms are becoming severe quickly & developing rotation. Some storms are dropping hail up to the size of golfballs.

Huntsville TV just showed photo of tornado approaching. It's pretty big.

Love reading these threads, even though why we are having this thread sucks.
Just wanted to say that tornado sirens are ominous. The one in SW Missouri had us hunkered down for a bit and it died out about 5 miles from us.
Prayers for those that are still in it.

Isn’t sand mountain in the cross hairs for a lot of these?

It is. That part, along the county line is heavily populated. One of the fastest growing areas in the state.

Sand Mountain is a weird place. The geography of the area tends to make storms do weird shite. The hills and hollers can give storms a topographical boost, so to speak.

I posted her here a while ago when she first came to town. Yessir!

Yes I seem to remember that town coming up a lot in class. Both of our met professors came from UAH. One of them was heavily involved with this huge research project, Vortex-SE, centered in Huntsville and it seemed like every time they deployed they ended up in sand mountain.

Looks like WAFF may have a funnel near Huntsville.
