I've often wondered about how someone qualifies to go to a constitutional convention.
There are no rules for it basically. Hence Bollinger and Grigsby

Is there some legal reason that it even needs to be done during session? Why not a separate constitutional convention?
Valid questions.I don’t see the need for the urgency. I can’t imagine there’s a legal reason for the rush since we hadn’t really heard about this until very recently.

I’m all in for doing it immediately. But why not convene a constitutional convention after session, over the summer?
James Madison and co. took four months on the US constitution. No way the gaggle of idiots that serve in the legislature can accomplish anything at all in two weeks unless, as I said previously, they already have been given a nearly finished document from the administration.

Reminds me of Obamacare. “You’ll find out what’s in the bill once it passes.”

You think two weeks is an appropriate time frame to draft and debate a new state constitution?
Two weeks is plenty of time with ChatGPT.

Maybe they dont want one because they aren't being told what the agenda is going to be. People sure dont want the public records laws weakened so all the politicians can hide what they are doing.

Louisiana is near the bottom of most important categories, we are an island of red ink in a sea of black ink, and people are exiting our state by the thousands.
Yet I still see people who want yo keep the status quo. Why?
Tax film credits, oil and gas, and gambling isn’t the answer. Providing a better mousetrap than our neighbors is. What we have now instead is a bunch of rats running us into the ground,

I will settle for as good a mousetrap as our neighbors!

The new "constitution" has been ready since Landry was Grandstander whore Gen......excuse me, I meant Attorney General. God only knows what that weasel and his cronies have put in it.

Many posters here were happy when Republicans took control of the state basically introducing the potential for one party rule. The next step is to create a new constitution that would heavily favor one party rule. Assume that passes. Now you really have one party rule with a constitution to back it up. Many would celebrate that. The Democrats have no power and no way to object. The Republican Governor would be very powerful as would successor Governors.
But what happens if the new leadership that you were happy to see get into office and then adopts policies that you disagree with? Nothing, you are screwed.
Just remember the phrase, Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely.

THIS is why a constitutional convention scares the hell out of me....
