15 years ago? You want to compare housing prices to right after the 2008 crash?

Talk about a dishonest argument.

Fine, pick a date range of your choice then.

Tbh life is only hard for one group of people in America but you aren’t allowed to say who it is.

This is a fair assessment. Unfortunately, my generation votes to continue such policies while complaining about the older generations who vote against them.

how is he saying that today is more or less affordable than the past? seems like all he said was he worked hard and saved and so should you. i mean, that's good advice.

Nah, the "houses aren't affordable" argument has already been played out and shown to be obviously false. I just wanted to point out how dishonest you are.

Let's move on to your "can't get a mortgage" argument.

They want you to send in 3 years of tax returns nowadays

Feel like a few years ago all they needed was a firm handshake

8-10 years ago people would have said to pay more than $300k for any home would be absolutely stupid.

Those same people are now trying to argue a $200k apartment is a good investment.

Genius.

It's gotten absurd. The concept of just telling a young person "go buy a house, and if you can't do that it's just because you're not working hard enough" is just wrong

it's not wrong. It's exactly how I did it. I worked for years before I could afford a home. I lived in an apartment, and then a mobile home while I saved for the down payment.

Suck it up, buttercup.

Here was his exchange. He's presenting the same strategy he used in a much more advantageous position to a person today making no differentiation for todays market.

don't buy that place because it's doubled in price in 8 years
It hasn’t been sold for anything as of yet.

No one wants to buy it.

It was listed for $165k in 2020 and wasn’t sold.

No one has made any money off of it.

And I was wrong, it was $90k in 2012 and property assessment of $140k in 2016.

They keep picking exceptions and not the overwhelming norms on average. Whether you pick average home price or median home price in the US, both are over 400k. How someone can look at inflation and todays rates coupled with the stagnation of pay increases and with a straight face say housing is affordable is absurd.

$200k was the amount that was given by the people saying houses aren't affordable. You can't complain about people finding houses in the range given.

What are you talking about? People don't buy the "average house." They buy the house in their price range in the area they want to live.
