I mean...how many of you have really heard of the following:
Millard Fillmore
Franklin Pierce
Rutherford B. Hayes
James Garfield
Millard Fillmore
Franklin Pierce
Rutherford B. Hayes
James Garfield

History classes usually briefly mention Hayes’ name when talking about his controversial election, the Compromise of 1877, and the end of Reconstruction. He’s not really a contender for the least remembered president ever.
Filmore and Pierce’s names are rarely mentioned in history classes. But if you do some googling you’ll realize that some things they did as president are discussed in history books (ie Compromise of 1850, Kansas-Nebraska Act)- it’s just that the name of the presidents who signed the legislation is rarely mentioned.
With people like Van Buren, Arthur, and Benjamin Harrison, you still won’t have any idea what they did as president after reading their Wikipedia article. (The same is true of Grover Cleveland, but he’s a bit less obscure due to his inconsecutive terms.)

These are all excellent choices for me with the exception of Rutherford B. Hayes, because I loved Young Guns when I was a kid and Billy The Kid referenced Rutherford B. Hayes several times in the mov9e

I know about Rutherford B. Hayes because he is my great-great-great-great uncle.
I even inherited a pair of candlestick holders that (reportedly) belonged to him.
Whatever your opinions are about the 1876 election, Hayes had an interesting life.

Millard Filmore should be opposite of forgettable. He was the last President who was a member of the Whig party. Opened up trade relations with Japan. Started the first library in the White House. Signed the Fugitive Slave Act, which may have been one of the biggest contributors to the Civil War. By the end of his presidency, he was so unpopular that his own party chose not to nominate him. Then, years later he got involved in the Know Nothing party.

I'm distantly related to Franklin Pierce. So that's the only reason I know about him. My aunt used to make a big deal over it telling me we had a president in the family. Nevermind the fact that he was one of the worst presidents in our history! LOL

How is he forgettable? He was one of the few Presidents that was assassinated in office.

Millard Fillmore: not much
Franklin Pierce: not much
Rutherford B. Hayes: you mean “Rutherfraud, His Fraudelncy”? Decent history regarding an election that ultimately was decided extra constitutionally. Worth a chapter in an American history book.
James Garfield: he was shot so there is that.
