Apparently Brownsville was once 2/3s white American at least. Of course the population was tiny
“The 1850 census showed a population of 519, two-thirds of whom were from the states along the Atlantic seaboard; most of the remainder were Mexican, Irish, French, English, and German.”

During the next two decades, a large influx of Whites from the North served to reshape Brownsville's ethnic structure. Before 1900 nearly half of all those born in the city were the products of interracial marriages, and both Anglo and Mexican customs were widely practiced and respected. The town's new residents, mostly Protestant and White, however, were more reluctant to assimilate, and as a result ethnic divisions began to widen.

Yeah I’m tired of propping up the existence of other nations while our own nation’s citizens suffers with poverty, drug addiction, and open borders with foreign invaders pouring in.

Santa Anna's arse won't get so lucky this time
Really though the Latino has already taken over Texas, the white male (like me) is now a minority, I need to go apply for all my free stuff.
The number one rated radio station in DFW is Local Mexican (whatever that is).

Probably so. It seems that mostly all the anglos that grew up in the area south of San Antonio have mostly fled after the late 90s. There’s only a few public schools that are even half Anglo. Laredo was also pretty much half Anglo not all that long ago

Well I can’t disagree with that.

In south and west texas the Hispanic population has basically completely assimilated so I don’t see the changing demographics as that big of an issue. The worst part of it is your Anglo kids might get bullied in school. This is outgrown by high school though.
Not sure what the situation is like in the big cities that are not San Antonio. Sure y’all always had Hispanics but the ones y’all have now are mostly immigrants it seems. Very stark contrast from south and west texas. And then you get out of texas and most Hispanics seem to be immigrants.

My family never made it that far down south but I have ancestors that fought for just about every confederate state… besides Texas. And yet somehow they all ended up here after the war.
I have an ancestor in Cameron county texas as early as the 1820s. Not sure if it was called that then. But he was in texas before independence and through him I descend from Ponce de Leon!
My southern ancestors that came to texas settled Dallas, the hill country, and then south Texas (didn’t make it much further than the nueces)

I think it was a combination of cheap land but also sort of “running away” from the south and the confederacy in a sense. They must have been devastated after the war and I guess a lot chose to move on west. It is sort of the story of the south and America in general, going west for more opportunity. Our ancestors probably all started out in Virginia or the Carolina’s or Maryland.

Irish ones came in 1848 to the port of New Orleans.
I’m not related to anyone fancy like Ponce de Leon

You need to learn the history of the land from the river to the sea better and then try hypothetical again.
