That’s a lil hard to prove as a certainty. Very possible would be better. These style ATVs race at arms length from each other at speed and sometimes do not collide.
Do they use humans as cones o. The track? Are their children in walkers randomly placed there? Are they on pavement with off road tires?

agreed, the cop used his car as a weapon to stop the guy, that is excessive force x10, and its no different then if the cop causes him to run straight into a brick wall and instant death
YOU ARE SO RIGHT
frick THOSE HELPLESS KIDS LYING ON THE ROAD. ATV DRIVER FTW!!!

The cop was protecting pedestrians. He gave room for the ATV to pass on the right to move the rider out of the path of walkers. The rider was hauling A, and I doubt he intended on stopping.

From the police chief: The video has received backlash on social media, but Jacobson said the cruiser’s lights were on and the officers handled the situation the right way.
“They hear an ATV coming in their direction, they move over to the left side as a way to shield the people behind them,” Jacobson added. “The officer wasn’t traveling at any speed when the incident happened and then the officer also gave an area of egress, meaning they could’ve gotten around the police car.”

you are INSUFFERABLE.
look at the pic
Cop is literally passing the kids laying on the road.
Splat the ATV a-hole is coming down on the left side at 100mph
WHERE IS HE GOING TO GO EVEN IF HE WAS SOMEHOW MAGICALLY ABLE TO STEER AROUND THE KIDS? STRAIGHT IN THE COP CAR??
you've lost this thread. go home.

A video of two idiots that probably struggled to get out of high school.
Well one of the idiots would have saved you and your family's lives while the other would have mowed you over in an atv.

There have been situations where people used their cars to open up lanes in these protests and the DA opted to not press charges and some of the Sheriff's have stated there were no laws broken to charge the driver.
That’s prosecutorial discretion. That’s merely the difference in being in a state with sympathetic DA’s. But in these situations… were they just moved, suffer minor injuries, or serious ones?

don't follow police and record every encounter; however, in my youthful heavy speeding days I have a number of encounters where a cop walked onto a highway to force me to stop, and 1 instance where a cop pulled his motorcycle out in front of me to stop me for doing 30 in a 20.
So he didn’t cause you any harm or damage.

If I were close enough to a motorcycle on a sidewalk for me to shove them; then I would venture to guess that I would be able to legally push them over as I was standing my ground and in fear of great bodily harm as I just witnessed them jump a sidewalk near me.
I said “walk up” and shove them over. Walking up to and shoving them over is not stand your ground.

No one is claiming he should have just stopped. They are stating eh should have not been there, he was driving the ATV in an unsafe manner and was unable to control the ATV, and if he could not avoid the cop car, he had no shot at avoiding that family a few feet further up the road.
Again. I agree with the ATV being in the wrong too.

For asking what the law is?
I ask “what does the law say”. Then it’s “he deserved it!! He’s a moron!!! He shouldn’t have been there!!! Look at the picture!!! What are you, a cop hater?!?”

i hope that's never your wife and kids laying on the road when you sit here and smugly call the cop out for saving their lives.
bet you'd be singing a whole different tune if that cop had let a vehicle weighing a couple thousand pounds have at your wife and kids.

Except in this case we know that the rider did, in fact, collide with a stationary object (the police car) when there were other stationary objects (people) right behind it.
I will post this again, slightly altered. The red line is where the cop’s front bumper stopped. Green line is where his front bumper would have been (being generous) had he stated moving in his lane:
Which scenario do you think was more likely to result in a collision (either into the police car or pedestrians)?
A) Cop moves into left lane, ATV has an opportunity to pass him and the pedestrians in the right side
B) Cop stays in the right lane, ATV has to avoid both the cop on the right and the pedestrians on the left

What about my wife and kids when I shoot an intruder for coming into my house and am arrested for saying something in the heat of the moment they consider incriminating?
Since we are talking hypotheticals.

Since when is “well this was likely to happen” ever stood up in court?

What the frick does any of this have to do with an ATV hitting a police car?

only its not a hypothetical because this was somebody's family laying on the road in the path of a deadly weapon.
i have no idea what you're rambling on about
maybe drink some coffee and clear your head.

All the fricking time. You can’t be serious.
I ask which is more likely because those are the only options that the cop had. He took the option that was least likely to result in serious injury or death. Unless you think that staying in his lane would have somehow been less likely to result in an accident.

Well I’ve answered post after post after post after asking “what does the law say?”
We have been dealing in hypotheticals the whole time. So I’m dealing out hypotheticals.

Well there is a problem in your graphic. The cop didn’t move from the right to the left lane. He parked diagonally and blocked the entire road.
Again I ask. If that were you or me… what does the law say?
