Are none of the Thunder, Timberwolves, Cavs, Magic, Pacers, Mavs, Knicks contenders?

For a real contenter yes.
Would you pay the tax for this team?

showed you direct evidence from this season that shows you are wrong

Why are you continuing to deflect and crawfish? Forget about what I said originally that you disagreed with. You said you have to be a tax team to be a contender. There’s plenty of playoff teams right now who are not in the tax who are legit contenders.

Yeah but problem is we’re not close to those teams. So the real question should be could getting into the tax help us be contenders? I think it can especially if you’re having trouble becoming a contender while staying under the tax.
The goal for the team isnt be under the cap AND be a contender. The goal should be to become a contender any way possible.

Do you really equate spending to success in a regulated sports league with a salary cap?

I've been saying this for years. This is a profit vehicle for Gayle. She couldn't give less of a shite if they win 20 games or a championship as long as she's making the most money possible.

You've been wrong for years then. Gayle Benson is 77 years old. She has no children to leave anything to. She's already made it public that once she dies, the proceeds from the sale of the team are all going to charity. She has way more money than she can spend before she dies. It makes absolutely zero sense to think she's only interested in making a profit from the Pels and puts that above winning.

Every above reason you gave doesn’t mean she wouldn’t put profit over winning. You’re acting like her personal attorney when you say stuff like she has enough money to spend before she dies. All this is just personal opinion based on nothing other than what happens to her money when she dies.
Reality is she married Tom at a very late edge, inherited everything he had and his kids are completely cut out of everything regarding professional sports.

Meaning its better not to spend to become competitive or stay competitive to win a title.
Again the issue is simple: can this team be better if went over the cap?- the reality yes. Especially since the franchise has been in existence while staying under the cap we haven’t even reached the west conf finals.

There are more reasons to suggest she wouldn't put profits over winning than the other way around.

These aren’t reasons they’re just personal opinions. You have no idea what she feels or what she wants. Frankly because she never speaks about her personal franchises and their futures in any way. When have you heard Gayle talk about saying we’ll do anything to make the pelicans a winner including paying the tax?

Gayle hasn't said it, but David Griffin has. He's stated they will go into the tax when they feel it's time and it's the right move.
They built a new practice facility and are apparently about to do a big renovation there this offseason. She's given Griffin authority to keep firing head coaches even though that cost her millions. They revamped the nutritional/training/medical side of the franchise.
Plenty of examples of her investing in the Pels. The only thing to suggest she won't pay the tax is that she hasn't before in her 5 years of being the solo owner.

The Clippers and Suns did it and look how it worked out

In other words unless they make west conf finals game 7- shes not paying the tax.

Yet their gleague squad plays in a better arena than the pelicans. This has literally been said by pelican players themselves.

The Mavs and Celtics are paying it. Hows that turning out?

The Clippers (for now) are still in the playoffs, so it might be premature to bury them, but the Suns and Bucks both made big gambles this past off-season and went deep into the tax, and it's bombed in both cases.
It's reminiscent of the Lakers move to add Westbrook. Those episodes illustrate the danger, because Gayle isn't rich enough for us to go way into the tax and then spend a bunch more to try to fix everything if it doesn't work.
We'll get one shot at this, and it has to work.
So, yes, we need to make moves to go into the tax and contend, but we have to make absolutely sure that they are the right moves, because we won't get another chance for a long while.

Thats very true but look at it this way. If it works- all well and good we’re contenders.
If it doesn’t and Griffin fricks it up- he probably gets fired.
Looks like a win/win situation to me.
