It's pretty offensive in a way. Why assume they have struggled to get to this point in life?

This is what happens when you try to focus on human interest stories rather than the subject at hand, football. Additionally, many of these reporters have never stepped out of their exceptionally sheltered bubble and seen how the average American lives.

Bingo.

The media is constantly trying to focus/create some emotional "rags to riches" story and just assumes many of the player picked fit the mold. Thomas's family seems like just a regular middle-class family. Not a single parent household that is going from the projects to the penthouse.

I get the context the reporter was asking the question, but Mrs. Thomas obviously didn't see it in that context because to her she didn't see the situation as some brokedick single mom going from the hood to millionaire beneficiary. She just saw it as a mother who has a son who was good enough to be selected to play for an NFL team. So why should she think they were asking her about seemingly "coming from nothing?" She just answered the direct question...directly. They came from Baton Rouge to Detroit

Kinda reminds me of how ESPN said Najee Harris would sleep on the floor at his dorm at Bama because he was used to floors at the homeless shelter, which Najee denied and said he slept on his bed the whole time. They just make shite up to ham up drama and sob stories.
