Fans have been speculating and saying for years that LSU claim it because they have the most legit claim to it. It is even list LSU for 1908 on the NCAA website. Has anyone ever asked Woody or anyone else at LSU why they do not claim it?

That wasn’t football. Shut up about it. We’re better than this

It was football, football was different 10 years ago than it is now....not saying we should claim it, but that argument is dumb

Bama ‘claims’ they won the Natty in 1908 with a 6-1-1 record
LSU went 10-0
LSU went 10-0

That’s like saying a monkey is a human. They played in sweaters. Touchdowns were worth 5 points. LSU’s first opponent in 1908 was “Young Men’s Gymnastic club of New Orleans”. No blacks allowed. No that wasnt even remotely the same thing as modern football. Modern club level ultimate frisby is a more legitimate sport than football in 1908.

Retroactively claiming national championships from over 100 years ago is just weird and pointless.
Honestly, how does this matter in any way shape or form?

Because it does matter. It’s an unacknowledged National Championship.

We need to claim it

American football is derived from rugby. Rugby touchdowns are still worth five points. Extra points are crucial. Worth two points.

And the football team has survived just fine. This affects nothing. Move on. It was almost 120 years ago. no one cares.

We need to claim it!! Those mens and players deserve to be recognized for what they accomplished. I think is so strange that we don’t acknowledge it. Why not celebrate our rich history all big programs do.
Every year I bring it up and it should be recognized!!!

I’d say whenever they stopped playing in sweaters and leather hats. But let’s be honest real football started after 71’. But if it makes y’all sleep better at night to count that extra natty, go for it. Other teams do it so should we!!! Print the shirts!!

The Yale Beast, the single wing, and the Notre Dame Box are still being used successfully today, not only in derivative forms but in direct form.
Many of us watched football in the 60s. Some would say that is more REAL football than what is played today.

I thought for sure I saw the 1908 team recognized among the section of upright metal plaques of championship teams outside of the Tiger Stadium entrance with player names listed like Doc Fenton. If so, that's an official championship claim, no?
Or am I misremembering & going crazy via the Mandela Effect?

You're right. The game was much more brutal and violent back then and players literally died on the football field. It got so bad the sport was nearly banned.

Yep, from 1900 to 1905, there were 45 deaths, usually from broken necks/spnes or internal injuries. It was practically gladitorial.
Teddy Roosevelt was a huge football fan & to avoid football getting banned, he set up a grid-iron committee to make football safer. They eventually accepted Walter Camp's forward pass proposal. Even though maiming/career-ending injuries still occur, the forward pass made on-the-field deaths a rarity.

The LSU Tigers went unbeaten and untied against a weaker opposition. All three teams were named national champions retroactively by various organizations. Only Pennsylvania officially claims a national championship for the 1908 season.

Yea more than half of those guys would not be D1 athletes today. Still I’m ok with considering ‘plastic helmets era’ as the beginning of real football. Your generation is safe old timer!!
