Saw someone share this on FB. Seems it was sent out concerning state testing for school kids. Can’t be legit can it?

Doesn't seem that bad. I get the message.

I don’t disagree.
Who gives a shite if an engineer doesn’t know why Karen was mad at Jeff in whatever stupid fictional book he was forced to read in school.
And who cares if the lady that designs clothing for her own shop doesn’t remember the state capital of Oregon.
Or if a doctor has trouble with differential equations.

Yeah I mean it’s not that bad

I don’t disagree with anything they wrote. There’s probably been some incidents at that school that led to this letter…so consider that.

The difference between people in their 20s and younger today is like no other generation.
People used to talk about Millennials, but I thought a lot of it was exaggerated and those in their 20s are the tale end of millennials right? So I don't know if its exactly a generational issue or that not everyone in one generation isn't the same, things change within generations, but as a whole, these kids are a bunch of pussies.
There are those who are on their shite and know what they want, but there is a big difference between the ones who know what they want and those who don't and those who don't can't do anything for themselves. They all think they are special, they all wait for someone else to do shite for them. And it seems like they have an unhealthy relationship with their parents.
If you are 25, 26 years old there is no way in hell your parents should be doing you finances, making appointments for you and relying on them for personal information that you should know (SSN, etc, etc).

Then why would you give out grades or heck why test at all?
Just count attendance each day and move the kids on thru to the next grade level.

Plumbers don’t need no High Schooling.

Not sure how I need to say this but that’s not what a school letter sent to parents looks like in 2024

One of these things is not like the others. A doctor may not use differential equations in the daily practice of his profession. But I expect him to have well above average intelligence so that mastery of high school and college level math is not a high hurdle for him.

I get the point, but there are indirect lessons from exams: preparing for things you aren’t naturally good at, performing under pressure, doing things you don’t like, overcoming your fear of failure etc.
All of those are important to being a functioning, productive human.

Is it important to know historical facts in the age of Google, maybe not, but should you be able to research, form opinions, make connections, draw conclusions?
Is it important to memorize Shakespeare or Thoreau? Unlikely. But is it important to communicate effectively, read and write with confidence, use context clues to make inferences, I’d say yes.
Is it important to be able to find the f of x? You probably will never do it again. But you will have to learn processes, problem solve, manage numbers.
And if you’re cool staying ignorant on how our planet works, then frick you.

They lost me at “I know you’re really anxious for your child to do well”. I ain’t anxious about it. Good for them if they do well. It’s a test. The world ain’t gonna come to an end over it.
