Question about planting...
I disked our plots several times this spring and went up and sprayed yesterday. It's supposed to rain friday and next week. Any reason why I can't plant sat? It will have been 5 days since I sprayed.

needs to be about 1500 lbs to successfully terminate. The tree I'm thinking of is a massive white oak that was going to be firewood

I'd wait at least 7 days

I thought you were spraying anyway?

If your plant intervals allow it. I assume you sprayed glyphosate or something similar, and you should be fine if that is what you did. I wouldn’t mow or disk though.

After seeing how much crimson they had in the plots before mowing, I plan to go heavy with in my fall plots. Going to try and get it thicker.

I'm debating it...definitely wont have a crimper in time. I did a good job mowing down the fall Rye grass so I'm going to see where that gets me with the weeds....look at my pics.

If it’s a post-emergent herbicide, why wait?

I didn’t have a lot of weeds

Most contact kills have a timeframe from when it was sprayed to when the plant can be mowed/disked.
The reason is if you mow/disk the treated part of the plant too soon the roots might not have absorbed the chemical and henceforth the plant comeback from the roots.

What did you spray? That would determine if safe to plant or not?
Roundup has basically no residual for planting you can plant same day you spray. 2,4-D has a longer residual, 5-7 days wouldn't be recommended/would be on the early side.

I sprayed both on Tues and spread seed today. Packing tomorrow. I guess we’ll see

You will be fine on glyphosate the 2,4-D could be an issue with its residual. However by the time your seeds germinate you will likely be fine.
Will be an interesting experiment to say the least. I think you will see a pretty decent germination rate.

Did you spray Ester or Amine?
How much did you spray per acre?
You might have issues. They could just be superficial though. Where the damage would cause a small decrease in seed production or something like that. If you were farming for production it might would hurt you in that case but for wildlife not so much.
The issue is that by not going by the label you are taking a chance the whole crop could be a failure.

I guess we’ll find out. I spread it yesterday. Got a ton of rain today and it’s getting packed today in between rain showers. Should have good rain next week as well.

Finished planting a new 3 acre field and fertilized everything yesterday.
Hopefully this rain continues all week in SWMS
