Baseball proves you can have a ton of talent, but that doesn't always equate to success!

In sports, most fans think a lot of talent will automatically turn into wins, but that's not always the case. The teams that have good leadership, chemistry, talent, experience, confidence, drive to win and the "it" factor are much more likely to beat a team that is supremely talented almost every time!
Last year's LSU baseball team had all that, with the most important part of that formula is having the "it" factor. Talent is nice to have, but it takes a lot more than that to win consistently. When last year's team was in a close game, you knew they were going to somehow find a way to win. This year's team doesn't have that confidence, leadership, strong desire to win and clearly don't have the "it factor."
This year's team has talent, but it's void of a lot of the other key factors that are needed to be elite. I believe this year's team has the makings of becoming a great team down the road, but the only problem with that is the NIL/transfer portal almost guarantees there will be a lot of new faces on the team next year.
I guess, it is what it is!

We have way too many young guys playing in key spots for them to have “it” factors.
Neal, Kling, Jones, Miliam.
They can be those “it” guys soon. But right now too young.

Sophomores aren't young in college baseball, especially in the case of Kling who is draft-eligible this season.

I'm not sure this team does have a ton of talent.....

Sophomores in a vacuum are definitely still young in terms of development

What this year has told me is that the MLB scouts are pretty smart. None of our freshman are pro ready.

Paxton Kling has 13 more career SEC plate appearances than Steven Milam.
ETA: That's about one weekend.

Texas aTm already proved that.

I mean you can make the parameters however you want, fact of the matter is Kling isn't where we'd thought he'd be at this point in his career.

You have an unreasonably high opinion of complex league baseball apparently.

I'm not disagreeing. But in terms of development, he's still young. Both things can be true.

Paxton Kling gives me big time Mo Hampton vibes

Saying Kling's development is close to Milam's development based on SEC AB's is a tad disingenuous considering Kling has been in the system a full year more than Milam. There's more to devel than SEC AB's.
I say this as someone who thinks Kling is and will always be a better all-around baseball player than Milam.

Lol no. Kling actually plays

Sometimes its just chemistry. I've seen it before.

And he was hurt for a lot of that year.

Clearly, but at some point you have to be able to look at shorthand stats and approximate things. We're never going to have all the information, so proxies help with the conversation.

Well yeah but they were both big time recruits with tons of “talent” who have been total busts. At least up to this point.

Yap, this.
It’s crazy how much expectations sway the way different players are viewed.
Yea, Kling is still young & has to improve. But he didn’t ask for the target on his back. Fans will hold that against him until he is gone. It’s so stupid

Part of that is because there are guys like you who talk them up and then they underperform. Kling, Hurd, and Neal are good examples. Whenever you have guys talking about how good Braswell is defensively, how much Neal gets on base, etc and those things turn out not to be true, it's going to get people's attention.

I agree and have said the expectations Jay placed on him last year "he could be the next Dylan Crews" always set him up to fail, but to also act like he has so much time left when this could conceivably be his last year here is just as dumb.
