I had that happen to a friend. His dad opened up a CC in his name and used it to pay for his college expenses…he had no idea. When he graduated he had a huge debt and his dad was broke. A real POS.

Why did you link a clearly fake video?
should be a 6week ban imo

Children’s credit should be legally locked until age 15 at absolute minimum. Too many stupid parents have destroyed their children’s lives with obvious fraud like this

Less than 10 seconds into the video and I am completely shocked that his momma would do such a thing!

I feel bad for "Jrs," etc with deadbeat dads. Constantly having to make sure their credit check comes thru correctly and hoping they don't have to tell the person how much of a deadbeat his dad/grandpa was/is.

I’m amazed someone can watch that video and think it’s real

I'm assuming illegals can take advantage of things not getting checked too.
This nation definitely needs to figure out how to make it harder for the bad people, and easier for the good people.

Is the same thing accomplished by having them as an "authorized user" of a credit card and just not hand over the card to them?
You should do both. Authorized user first to start the credit and then when they’re an older teenager get it in their name alone. They should have the credit by then to have an account in their name alone

Might be a little late with it but I am going to add my oldest son (17) to some of my cards today and get him his own card once he is 18. Having a credit history at 18 is such a massive advantage.

How are they pulling up delinquencies from 24 years ago?
Also seems like it would be a pain to fix, but the accounts were opened when he was a minor so they're easy to prove as fraudulent.

I was able to get cards with my kids names when they were 12 and 10. Not sure how much it helps but can’t hurt

I've seen this on pornhub. The mom sleeps with the attorney and they all end up living at the same house.

The stuff they are citing is outside the window of consideration.
You can have a horrific history and perfect credit as long as the bad stuff is outside of the 7 year window (think the fact of a bankruptcy stays 10 years).
The stuff being citied are so old it wouldn’t be on a credit report.
I guess I should have listened more intently. I saw the hair on the "lawyer" and couldn't focus on much else.

I think this actually happens more than you would think. I know a well to do family in Austin, the Dad did this exact thing to his three kids. Took out loans, credit cards, etc in their name and defaulted on a bunch of it. fricked up shite. Took that girl a long time to recover from that.
