Just finished masters of the air last night and I know a ton of topics have already been done on these but who cares.
Just curious yalls order of these. It’s obvious BOB is number one but would you put the pacific or masters of the air at 2?
For me following the same group mostly in masters of the air and having a couple main guys helped. But the hand to hand combat aspect of the pacific was better.

Masters of the Air had it's moments
I thought the last episode was really good

Side question as well. I honestly can’t imagine what that generation of men went thru and I’m not from a military background at all. But what situation would you rather be in?
The episode in BOB of Bastogne is just awful to think about. But then the total opposite of weather in the pacific is just as bad.
Then being sent out day after day in a plane where you don’t have good odds of making it thru unscathed and if you do get hit you might be parachuting down into enemy territory isn’t great.
Overall I think personally I would have rather been in the pacific over Europe but they all sucked

Masters of the Air was good, so I mean no disrespect to it in my rankings, but it's:

BoB

The Pacific

Masters of the Air

Band of Brothers was 10/10 on every episode

Masters of the Air and Pacific had some really good episodes but they didn't bat 1.000.

I will say that Pacific has grown on me over the last several years since it first aired... I assume Masters of the Air will also continue to grow on me.

I would not have wanted to fight in the pacific realm because those japs were crazy and fought to the death both on land and at sea with the kamikaze pilots.

Being sitting ducks in those bomber planes would not have been fun either, I have no idea how realistic the prison camps were for all those pilots who parachuted into enemy territory in Germany but they made it seem like the prisoners were kept secure unless you tried to escape. Of course the march through winter had to have been horrific towards the end of the war and I can't imagine how tough being in a prison camp would have been mentally.

The only saving grace from the German campaign was that they were also fighting the Russians on the other front but those were some brutal battles on the way to Germany as well.

I guess the worse part would have been storming the beach on d day because those first to arrive were basically slaughtered and never had a chance.

All three are good. BoB is excellent, top-tier television. Pacific I actually didn't care too much for. I liked it and it was good, it just wasn't a subject matter that interested me and I didn't attach to any of the characters I don't think. Masters of the Air was really good, although slow and repetitive at times. But the last third or so of the series was really good and it rebounded quite well with me.

If I had to rank them I'd go:
BoB
MotA
Pacific

We lost interest in The Pacific.
Masters of the Air was a big deal for us.
Band of Brothers is too high to use as a measurement against anything else.

Band of brothers was the GOAT

Pacific second even tho it was more brutal than BoB but I didn't read helmet for my pillow or with the old breed like I did Band of brothers so that may play a role.

Didn't read the masters of the air book either but godamn I didn't realize the attrition they went thru. I think it was well made and im glad they put it out there.

But what situation would you rather be in?

When I have trouble sleeping at night, I’ll listen to videos like WWII Diaries to keep my mind occupied and drift off to sleep. The episodes are usually about an hour long. Last night, I listened to one about night fighting in the Pacific island hopping campaign. The Japanese thought the Americans fought like office workers and were weak because they wouldn’t fight after dark.

Marines were talking about how small they’d dig their foxholes because that was less space to defend against someone sliding in with you at night. They wouldn’t pile up dirt around the foxhole because that was a dead giveaway a foxhole was there. They dug deeper holes in the corners of their foxholes so they could shove grenades in them before they went off. Your buddy might be 4 feet away in his hole but even a slight whisper was a death sentence so you wouldn’t see or speak to them until daylight. Japanese would crawl on their bellies inch by inch with a hand in front of them with a finger raised so they could detect tripwires in the dark. Each foxhole was like an island and each night was a life or death struggle.

I had to change to a different episode. Give me Europe.
