An interesting fact about the war, and this is when China was not communist, I think it just shows culture persists no matter the govt.

During the war the US wanted to build a large airstrip in China to fight the Japanese in china and stop their advance. China wanted the US to pay for it. Now mind you this is during the time period of "the rape of Nanking" some real nasty things the Japanese were doing to the chinese, but they held off wanting the US to pay for it. So the US agreed.

Further delays because the chinese wanted to be paid in gold. So we agreed.

Further delays because they were bickering amongst themselves over who would get what cut of the overpricing for themselves. Eventually they built it.....by hand with thousands of peasants who didnt get paid diddly.

Some things never change.
