PSLF-based forgiveness is tax free.

quote:That I agree with, as well as one of the first posts mocking his dumb arse for pretending this had anything to do with Biden’s admin when this was a decade+ old program that’s only just starting to make waves in the last couple of years once the earliest PSLF eligible loan holders started to reach their 120 payment mark.
I never agreed with that, but did find his bragging about it to be on the spectrum.

This shite concerns me a bit because I have a granddaughter thats thinking of law school, shes about to graduate HS in another year.
This kind of stuff offers no incentive to hold down costs, but do offer an incentive to increase costs. Its a terrible way to go at this. Awful.
Figures that it was a Bush program.

His hobbies don't change the fact that he satisfied the 10 years of service and payments required for loan forgiveness. I'm less than a year out for ~200k of forgiveness.
Another POS. It's not forgiveness you idiot. Somebody else is paying it. Hope you lose whatever assets you have accumulated.

If she’s a good student with great LSAT scores, she can get most of that covered with scholarships, with one caveat: most law schools tend to be stingy with in state students. Most of the best scholarship offers will come from out of state. Not really much of an issue if the kid wants to move away anyway, but makes things a bit trickier if they want to move back, as their work/clerk experience will usually be geographically near their law school. Not the end of the world, but less than ideal. And problems compound considerably if they either go to law school or want to live in a state that isn’t part of the large reciprocity group.

Congratulations to the working class who never went to college. You get to help pay for your boss's lifestyle you wish you had. Maybe now they can buy that bass boat they've been eying out.

The federal government loans money; the federal government later says that money no longer need to be paid back.
How is that not debt forgiveness?

Shes a good student, got over 1300 on the PSAT her soph year, and has a 4+ GPA with all the extracurriculars.

Biden didn’t forgive his loans. Good lord how stupid are these people

Thanks to the save plan I'll be paying $400 instead of $1000 a month for another 5 years and will qualify for the same. 100k gone if approved.

Because the Feds don't earn any money therefore it was not their money to forgive. Can the feds "forgive" your mortgage?

quote:No argument there. However, we’re getting into semantics. If someone says “the government spends $X on Y every year”, no one pulls an akshually the government can’t spend money because…
Because the Feds don't earn any money
People just don’t speak that way.
quote:No, because the feds don’t hold my mortgage. But Chase could forgive my mortgage. And if the feds had lended me the money to begin with and still held the debt, sure, they could forgive it. Anyone saying that wouldn’t be forgiveness is just playing with semantics.

I know someone who had 100K in student loans forgiven recently - and she didn't apply/ask.

quote:Was it from one of the “fraudulent school” forgiveness rounds? Because for PSLF, you have to certify your employment, otherwise they would have no idea you were eligible.
