And like it or not… there are deadbeat businesses out there that will keep the money instead of forwarding it over when they fail to keep accounting records right or use the cash to keep the business afloat. Happens now all the time with payroll taxes. All the time. There are literally billions of dollars out there right now in unpaid and delinquent payroll taxes alone. I have to work with the IRS and clients constantly about getting them square on their payroll tax debt when they don’t make their correct deposits. Consumption taxes would be no different.
Deadbeat?
frick you, how about trying to survive. I pay my payroll taxes and I’m pissed off every week doing it.
Why the frick does a payroll tax even exist? Why the frick do I have to pay an additional tax just to pay my employees who are also paying taxes on that money.
And frick me if I try to pay myself. Paying taxes as the business to pay myself as well as income taxes. The government chops up my money 10 god damn times before it even get to my fricking checking account

Regarding a consumption tax versus income tax, one thing that never makes sense.
The argument for income tax is that it is progressive and does not impact the lower class too harshly. A consumption tax would tax everyone at the same rate (not true), so it would fall heavily on the lower class. Now if we assume this was true........
Why do local govts love gasoline, utility, and sales tax??????

Then you are absolutely NOT a deadbeat.
Would you be ok paying yours… and your competition does not? Then they use the money to purchase new assets that makes them more competitive?

I agree with you here. And the answer is for the fed guv to roll around in and fling in all different directions.

Again. Fully agree. I see it in everyone’s tax returns I do.
