So this Christina Harvey will support term limits for Congress, correct?

More than 50 advocacy organizations fighting for a variety of issues are endorsing legislation that would enact term limits for Supreme Court judges.
The group of 56 organizations announced their endorsement of the TERM Act — which was originally introduced in 2022 by Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.), was floated again last year and would create 18-year terms for current and future justices — in a press release Tuesday, first shared with The Hill.
His bill would allow the president to nominate a justice to the Supreme Court every two years — in the first and third years following a presidential election. The longest-serving judges would achieve senior status first.
“Extremists on the Supreme Court have undermined our democracy and fundamental freedoms by gutting voting rights, opening the floodgates to unlimited corporate money in our elections, and reversing 50 years of precedent by overturning Roe v. Wade,” Christina Harvey, executive director of Stand Up America, said in a statement.
“No one deserves power for life,” Harvey said in a statement. “That’s why 49 out of 50 states have either term limits, elections, or age limits for their highest courts.”

I would start with both Houses of Congress, first and foremost.

Hm, why not an amendment to the US Constitution, because, Article 3 doesn't say shite about term limits for Justices?
Yeah, I want term limits for the legislature for sure, but if USSC doesn't say so, amend it.
If 49 states agree, it should be child's play to get the state legislatures to approve an amendment. But, they're confused? It's PR.

Is this like the 200 surgeons who said Obamacare would bring costs down or the 17 intelligence agencies that said Trump was a Russian double agent or the 20 someodd females who appeared from the ether in 2016 to accuse Trump of being a rapist?

Congress first. The truth is that Congress and SCOTUS both suck. Congress is increasingly dominated by long tenures and corruption and the courts are over populated by Big Gov stooges.
Longest SCOTUS justice was about 37 years.
Chuck Schumer went to Harvard (shocker) and immediately went into politics. Been in politics for about 50 years now, continuously. Not a single day in the real world. In Congress for about 45 years, continuously.
Lindsey Graham has been in DC for about 30yrs and was a state politician before that.
McConnell has been in the Senate since 1985 (39yrs).
Career politicians and career judges. Both are bad for the nation.
Average time for SCOTUS justices is about 17yrs. We have two people right now in the House with 42yrs (at start of this Congress) in Congress. Harold Rogers and Christopher Smith. Chuck Grassley has been in the Senate for 42yrs as of convening the current Congress.
About 1/4 of the House has been there longer than 12yrs. In the Senate it's about 43%.
SCOTUS justices:
19yrs
32yrs
18yrs
15yrs
13yrs
5yrs
4yrs
3yrs
2yrs
Avg 12.33
Hank Johnson, who thinks Guam will tip over, was a lawyer and a judge (damning for the legal profession), and has been in Congress longer than the avg SCOTUS justice on the current court, and longer than 6 of the justices, and longer than the junior 4 combined, yet he wants to talk about term limits for them but not himself.
Avg length of service in the Senate is about 12yrs now.
As of 2022 the longest active time in Congress:
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) — 47 years*
Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) — 45 years*
Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) — 41 years*
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) — 41 years*
Rep. Hal Rogers (R-KY-05) — 41 years
Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ-04) — 41 years
Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD-05) — 40 years
* = both House and Senate time

Remember when dems wanted the person RBG picked to succeed her to be nominated just because it was RBG’s dying wish? These people are shameful and evil twats willing to do anything necessary to get power.

You can't end around the Constitution through a bill.
Posted on 4/10/24 at 1:49 am to LSUDVM1999
Pissed because leftist justices aren't shredding the Constitution like they were for 70ish years

Legislation will do no good.

Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.)...floated
Will this legislation tip over like Guam?

Did old Hank happen to include term limits for Congress as well? Must’ve missed it if he did…

His bill wouldn’t do a damned thing without a constitutional amendment.

This is the hill.
No term limits for SCOTUS without term limits for congress.
No term limits for SCOTUS without term limits for congress.

Damn it!!!! We can't have these people actually adhering to the Constitution

Both would probably need Amendments, but the 2 aren't really comparable. Persons who are elected are a function of democratic functions, and federal judges are appointed and that process is non-democratic.
There is a much stronger argument for protecting the will of the voters than the will of politicians.
