I think there is a lot of confusion about this. This is not necessarily the best recruiter on the team. This is an "organization" job. Scheduling visits, compiling lists, etc. Henson has done a great job, but it is probably very time consuming and monotonous at times. If he is moved to another position (purely speculation) it would not be a demotion. Recruiting coordinator is usually a position held held for a few years before a coach moves on to another title. Same with Orgeron. If he is not made the recruiting coordinator, it will not mean his impact as a recruiter will not be felt.

Great thread, much needed.

His impact would arguably be felt less, because he would be spending time that he could use on the recruiting trail scheduling visits, taking care of reservations/logistics/etc. Same with Porter, we need those guys on the front lines.

No, Henson does. Nader might help, but Henson is the main man. He also coaches tight ends.

Nader helps out. He used to be the recruiting coordinator, but the NCAA has since mandated that it has to be an on-field coach. Nader can't contact recruits on LSU's behalf. He can talk to them on campus, though, and shuttle them around, etc.

Thanks for this post. It cleared up my questions about needing Orgeron as Recruiting Coordinator when Henson is doing a great job. The more great recruiters we have the better.

Anyone know the recruiting impact our coordinators have? I recall Pellini was never listed as a primary contact on any big recruits and neither is Crowton. Is that normal, just as with the head coach not being the primary? Do they just come in to close the deal but allow the groundwork to be done by position coaches? I always wondered if our coordinators were poor recruiters or if that is just a way of designating a primary contact?

Off/Def Coords. work year round in the film-room. They usually get assigned a few schools in the BR Area so they don't have to be on the road. However, the OC usually does a little more recruiting nationally when it comes to bringing in a big time QB.

And while this is very true - it is also a resume enhancer. Another point is that this title is used to justify getting more pay out of the AD muckity-mucks.
