I think him going after the tubers is the most import part. He's trying his best to explain it away, but he engaged them and that escalated the situation. The girls escalated it further, but if he never charges the boys, none of this happens.
His demeanor change when he wanted the prosecutor to know he was cussed at as the girls told him to leave is telling he was actually pissed at them and not just defending.

Lying about the kids having knives (as well as trying to hide his own) certainly isn’t a good look
At the time he probably didn't know the whole thing was on camera and it would be his word vs the pack of shitheads that just attacked him so he thought his only option was to lie.

Being from Romania he probably also has a very, very strong distrust in police/authority.

it took the guys a few seconds to notice it,
So you think they saw the knife then attacked him? The kids were escalating the situation then decide to attack the guy holding a knife? I've done some dumb shite in my life but...…wow.
Just walk away and let it go.

He had plenty of chances to walk away

"Going after" and "charging" are just not accurate from the video I saw, or at least disingenuous. He was drunk and stumbling around looking for a phone (I think that's what it was). The guy he killed grabbed him by the throat and he was knocked down in the water, hit in the head, and surrounded. Nothing he did elicited that level of response.
The camera man lying that he was creeping on the girls probably incited it as much of anything and it was a complete lie.

Trial must be going pretty bad for his lawyer to put him on the stand.
Yeah, that is basically the only reason to do this. Its throwing a Hail Mary.
Not great for him

I'm watching his testimony and seen the video presented by both sides. I see a guy going after kids and then not leaving when he could have.

Adults. (actually not sure their ages, but they look like adults with tattoos, etc.)
And they could've walked away too.
Honestly, the cameraman lying about him creeping on the girls should be charged with something. I don't think this happens without that.

they pushed him into the water and then punched him in the face and tried to hold him down under the water. The frick if I'm not swinging the only weapon I have on me to try and even the odds.
So why did he toss the knife and pretend like he didn’t do anything and play dumb when talking to cops?

He was down stream and in their path after the he made the first contact with the tubes. He just needed leave.

I think you are missing my point. Unless the guy is in an ongoing act of stabbing and killing someone why would you willingly attack him while he holds a knife? Likely, peer pressure, mob mentality, and false bravado are to blame.
You are basically running to the knife and stabbing yourself if you see a man holding one in your direction and you decide to attack him. That's why I questioned if the kids even saw the knife before they attacked. I didn't notice anyone call it out prior to the stabbing in the video.

This. According to the testimony, the teenagers told him to get away from them, so he began walking away, then one of them called him a "raper". The prosecution didn't even dispute that.
That's when Nicolae turned around and approached the tubes again because he suspected one of them had the phone.

I don't see it that way, the Prosecutions witnesses have been better for the Defense.

Totally unrelated to the actual sequence of events whether he is found guilty or not. What he told the cops had no bearing on the outcome of the stabbing event and who is at fault.

The state's cross examination has been tearing Miu's testimony apart, and it looks like it's getting to him. CourtTV appears to love it.

100%. Until the Clarkson Krewe showed up, it was just a bunch of high school kids being mouthy.
Once the white trash showed up, the kids felt empowered to lay hands on him.

I guess if they never went on the tubing trip in the first place none of this happens too.
He ran at them b/c he thought one of the guys had the phone he was looking for, at least that's what he said on the stand.
What he did there didn't incite the reaction the idiot kids had after that, and nothing he did required the response the kids gave and escalated too.
I think the biggest thing going against him is the fact that he took the knife out before any of the physical altercations started. and then of course him lying about everything after the fact. I know why he and his lawyers won't let him say why he lied, but it's b/c he's a foriegner that just stabbed people and he doesn't trust the US legal system against him, but he can't say that in court or to the jury.
