-5 is still heavy for 12U. They can use -10 until 13U when they are required to use -8.

can and do are totally different words. very few kids should be swinging a -10 as a 12u imo.

That must be nice, in Alabama they start having to use a -3 BBCOR in 7th grade. My son was 12 in 7th. I'm pretty sure they could use a -5 in tournaments during 13U but had to use the -3 during middle school ball.

they shouldnt be using -10 at 12u. good way to ensure you break the bat and then thats a huge jump from drop 8 at 12 to bbcor drop3 at 14.
that kind of thinking is why so many kids leave the game at that age and cant make the HS team....totally unprepared for the big field and bbcor bats.
normal size kids should be
8-10 should use drop 10
11 and some of 12- drop 8
12-13 drop 5
14-college- bbcor drop 3

My kid is 12U and swings -8. I was just stating the rules. Don't see any kids in 12U swinging -5. If they are it's mostly their parents thinking they are the next Ohtani or Judge.
most of the major level kids swing drop 5 at 12. everyone at that level atleast swings drop 8 at 12 and at 13 100% of them swing drop 5.
its too big a jump to go drop 8 to drop 3
