Perhaps the SKC has some dark demons. We do better on the road.

New Orleans Pelicans arena 'not keeping pace' with other NBA arenas
Was it built on top of a graveyard like the Dome? Frick it and build a new arena with your own money Gayle! I know that is wishful thinking. Just happy for a win.

Wasn't their talk last year about a new arena? But by the old PowerPlant or city hall

She is a billionaire. Don’t let them tell you she is poor.

The crowds have looked pretty good to me. There were some lean years in the early 2000’s.

2024 NBA Attendance
Yes we have the smallest arena in the NBA and there is a solution.

We average 17,200 and capacity is 17,900. I wouldn’t call that bad.

Again we are the smallest arena in the NBA .There is a solution. Ask Milwaukee. Also I think the owner of the Clippers is paying for a new arena himself.
I will say this if Gayle and governor puts it up to voters it will fail. Just like what happened in Kansas City.

Except majority of teams are getting 18,000-19,000 per game. SKC is really not designed well and is outdated . If you go to other NBA arenas you will realize this instantly.

Found the story

New Orleans Pelicans arena 'not keeping pace' with other NBA arenas
Straight from Doug Thornton
quote:
“If you look at it today, the Smoothie King Center is not keeping pace with the modern NBA facilities,” said Doug Thornton ASM Global VP.
quote:
“The question is, what can we do,” Thornton said. “What can New Orleans afford.” It’s unclear if enough modifications can be made to Smoothie King’s current design to meet modern NBA standards. It has one of the smallest lower bowls in the league. A new arena could cost upwards of a billion dollars.

Ouch
quote:
Madison said when the Pelicans went to Birmingham for a preseason game last year where their minor league team plays, some players and staff found the facilities there a little better than what they have in the Smoothie King Center.

The state will have to contribute significant funds for any new arena.
Like the Superdome.

I was in Phoenix this past week for work and went to the game yesterday. Their arena is leagues above ours.

With what money Gayle has?
Do not for one second think Gayle couldn’t take out a loan against her assets.
If this is going to happen, it needs to be built on the grounds of the existing Champions garage, Lot 3/3A. This will allow for ASM to continue to run everything out of existing footprint. I’ve been very vocal that there needs to be about $100m in upgrades to Champ Square/Club44 to make it an actual sports district.
FiServ in Milwaukee is probably a comparable venue that should be looked at from cost standpoint. It costs $524m and was split between state and ownership committing over $274m of it. There will be a hotel tax.
The river site doesn’t make sense because DOTD would need at least 5-7 years to plan and update current infrastructure that is already bad for port traffic.
