Doesn't this statement just give you tons of confidence that we will be able to stop Ga. Tech in two weeks.

No...Does he mean they are now aware that these "option" type plays exist? I guess that's a start.

Les is the KING of understatements. I hope this is one of those.

You would prefer, perhaps, that he lay out the entire defensive scheme they plan to use against GT? Sure you would. That would give you an opportunity to criticize Miles for giving the oppoment an advantage.

Well he attempted to here, but this statement doesn't seem to be much better (or coherent either).
quote:
The quarterback has the ball at times and there are other pieces of the drill where he doesn’t have the ball. It’s really interesting (to practice against). You have to be really disciplined. You have to understand the call and you have to understand what your responsibilities are. We’re certainly not there now, but we sure are a lot further ahead than we were three days ago.”

id rather him not even talk about what we plan to do about the option.
we have alot of work to do before the bowl game like teaching players that when its 4th and 30 its a horrible idea to fricking punch someone or that this is not soccer and unless you are a kicker you are to not kick the fricking ball.

I found that statement to be perfectly understandable, and reasonable. What don't you understand, and I'll try to translate it for you.

This stems from the notion that you practice against the triple option without a ball! It allows the LBs and DEs to stay with their responsibility and not chase the ball.

So it took playing an option team in the 13th game of the season to finally teach defensive players not to chase the ball and to stay at home. That explains a lot. This is a defensive fundamental that doesn't just apply to the option.

The statement sounds fine to me. I doubt we've practiced much for a true option team. So yes, this is new stuff for them. And the second quote is in reference to a defensive drill for the option that they've been using in practice, it says nothing about a game plan. Sounds fine to me.

I understand your comment, but don't confuse the spread option with the triple option. The ball is hidden much better in the triple option is much more difficult to defend when it is run properly. However, in most offensive schemes balance is incorporated and passing is a relevant and realistic play. In the triple option offense the pass is kind-of like a trick play.
The triple option is designed to frustrate the DEs and hope that you somehow forget to tackle the dive.

Umm...Players have different responsibilities depending on the type of offense we're playing. Don't act like we should already be prepared for this. We certainly haven't faced anything like this during the year.

Les Miles is running a close second behind GW Bush for being the most articulate person in the country. What an arse clown this guy is. Go take a speech class at LSU

Are you still not accustomed to Miles-speak?

No I understand that well, ran the triple option in HS. But my point was that our defense, in particularly DE's and OLB's, did a poor job of staying "at home." You saw a lot of guys players get caught chasing the ball and taking themselves out of position.
A prime example is our DE's not recognizing screen plays and getting sucked into the QB allowing backs to slide in behind them and pick up big yards. I understand that the triple option is designed differently than the spread and deception is a larger part of the triple option. My point was strictly that our defensive players have struggled with chasing the ball all year long, maybe these types of drills (not necessarily option specific) would have been helpful a lot earlier than now.
