On PC it appears the update broke the ability to run the game past the 72 FPS cap at least in the traditional way most players were probably getting around it.
This "next gen" update literally halves the FPS.

Do you know if they used frame rate in physics calculations? Bethesda is notorious for stupid shite like that. And if so, rebuilding the cap would make sense.

Sounds like the update is a disaster so far. They apparently didn’t even actually add UW support; the effect of what they did was the same stretched unplayable mess as editing the .ini manually

Supposedly it does. The higher the FPS, the more the physics get out of whack.
I cap my FPS at 120, and I didn't "notice" any weird physics.
All I do is change a 1 to a 0 in an .ini file.
I believe there may be mods requiring the script extender that allow for higher FPS and fix the physics, but I assume these mods will be broken until the script extender is updated.
I really don't understand why the tweak to the .ini file no longer works. I know there may be other ways to fix the FPS though.

Are the issued primarily with the PC version?

The reaction from console users seems to be “meh, but fine”, at least from what I’ve seen.
Most of the screaming is coming from PC users, as this update broke tons of mods for little to no discernible gain.

this..
Looks fine on the X, but i was running mods anyway, so no real difference..
had to dig through settings for the new performance switch

I fixed the FPS.
Edited both Fallout4.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini and forced Vsync off in Nvidia control panel

I’m playing on PC through game pass and it crashed once for me already but a quick restart fixed it. Taking my time with this run through in order to get the whole story.

From what I’ve read, there’s still a weapon debris effect that causes crashes for discrete GPUs, especially RTX GPUs. Something to try turning off if that applies to you.

Well damn, I’m running a RTX 2080. I will have to look into that today.

Like most poorly optimized games, FO4 doesn’t handle well swapping between between being GPU and CPU bound. From what I’m reading, it reminds me a lot of when I was playing Jedi: Survivor. Counterintuitively, the “best” performance comes from locking your frame rate at the lowest that’s comfortable for you (usually 60fps or so) and maxing out all of the graphics settings. You want your GPU taxed as much as possible and for your CPU to just quietly walk along. Your average frame rate will be lower, but you’ll deal with less stuttering, etc.
And like I said, kill the weapon debris setting.

I didn't notice any issues on PC. Got about 10 new quests as well

The primary complaint from PC players is that they got basically nothing. No better visuals, no higher frame cap, no actual ultrawide support, nothing. It took Bethesda two years to patch a dozen and a half bugs and add what are essentially standard console graphics presets.
Oh, and the patch broke the overwhelming majority of existing PC mods. For basically nothing.
If this were just a random patch, I don’t think anyone would really be complaining, beyond the mod breaking issue. But when you announce a “next gen update” two years in advance, people are naturally expecting a lot more than this.

Went to turn it off and it was already off, weird.
Don’t get a whole lot of time to play but I got everything situated in sanctuary except food which I am currently 1 short for full happiness.

Playing through the game again for the first time since 2016. I love the series and 4 is alright but I can see why I put this down a few times and didn’t pick it up for weeks at a time before I finished all the quests I wanted to and the main game. The characters and dialogue options are just so “meh” to me. A lot of illusion of choice. Boston just doesn’t do it for me like the Mohave wasteland did. It’s better than DC though I’ll give it that.

It’s frustrating when trying to clear out raiders and there are always a couple that will hide.
