What they need are cameras to ensure trucks stay in the right lane.

We want the fine revenue and if cameras are installed, there will be less

If it does happen, I’ll throw those in the trash just like the ones in NOLA

I was really hoping this would pass because I’m literally shaking due to the speeders every time I go down the basin bridge to catch a University of Louisiana sporting event (they’re the flagship school of Louisiana)

Good. It was a horrible idea from the jump.

Why did they use a burning car in the article?

I favor speed cameras without tickets. Just publish the license plate and speed violation on a website insurance companies can reference.

This was always a money grab with the way the bill was written with a $350 fine for the first offense, going up to $1,000 for all others with actually having to patrol.

All of these camera tickets are BS, I hope that the camera can show up in court so I can face my accuser in accordance with the 6th amendment.

I laughed at the people who legitimately believed this was going to happen.

Like you believe the state is going to maintain technology when they can’t even maintain simple things like roads and bridges?

I realize it’s fairly obvious that most traffic enforcement is all about revenue generation, but it’s kind of nuts to see a state senator straight up admit it. I mean.. is the priority reducing speed in the basin bridge or collecting revenue?

I think they could mitigate the impact to the local sheriffs by letting them keep revenue for tickets that they write. I mean, surely the cameras don’t prevent their officers from patrolling the highway. I can’t help but wonder if they’re more concerned that the cameras might actually be effective at reducing average speeds across the basin - making it a much less target-rich environment for the cops.

Not that I’m in favor of speed cameras in the first place. I’m not. I just think it’s a little crazy that law enforcement agencies are arguing that revenue is more important than safety.

Will LADOTD post where the camera blind spots are going to be so folks can still dump bodies out there without getting caught up in the tax collection enterprise?
