People need to take this a little seriously. There are people actively trying to do this today.
I've had several conversations with fellow ranchers and with someone high up in the Oklahoma property tax game. Everyone knows that there's not a rancher around that could pay a property tax bill on land that's not considered ag for property tax purposes.
And the progs know it. It will 100% be the long play to put a cap on acreage that can be counted and taxed as ag. Or to incrementally chip away until large landowners are forced to sell.

Then the ranchers need to lead a movement to eliminate the property tax from all people, not just themselves.

For instance, in Oklahoma, they've already made changes to make it harder to get an Ag Salex Tax Card. Now you have to basically file a Schedule F, which I've already been doing anyway, but that cuta out a lot of hobby guys or guys just feeding out a steer.
Ag land in Oklahoma is capped at a 2% increase year to year. It's 5% for everything else (except Homestead parcels which is 2%). And we do pay pennies on the dollar for sales tax. Take that away and I predict you'll see gun fights.

If everything else is more expensive to subsidize farmers, then a market equilibrium will be found.

Then why is everyone else paying higher taxes?
You think that has no market impact on prices everywhere else?
Landlords have to pay normal tax rates. Rents don't go up to cover this?
Businesses have to pay more to operate. Good prices don't go up to cover this?
Housing costs more for employees, raising the COL. You don't think the higher incomes that have to be paid are paid by consumers?

If larger parcels weren't protected, there wouldn't be food.
The vast majority of the food isn't from guys like me just fricking around. It's from the guys I know that employ 20 workers and house them in houses on their farm.
If you broke that up into 160 ac tracts because that's all someone could afford to pay taxes on, well definitely be eating crickets for supper.

All I’m saying is if this country wants to double the price of beef.. me and the cousins are going to flail mow the pastures, fix the fences, and get the gang back together.
Because summers like the last one where beef producers were having to feed hay in late July and August would still be profitable.
I’m sure my dairy farmer friend will be happy to hear that as well. Double the price of milk.

Grain prices recently are lower than they were 15 years ago while farmers pay quadruple the costs in seed, fertilizer, fuel and equipment. All maybe make a profit if it actually rains that year.

Also just wanted to say that there are some beef guys I know around me and around Paris, TX that are doing well but most didn't make that all of it by selling cows alone.
The big wealthy farmers are the sod guys. If you look at Google maps at the land east of Colbert, OK and towards Kemp, OK--it's 90% sod. And I know 5 of them extremely well. I shoot clays at one of the guy's ranges at his house. Those dudes are all loaded.
