Actually he isn’t. He hated vitter and worked against him.
Recall the incident at the coffee shop where he caught one of Vitter’s people trying to record his private conversation.
Newell isn’t a liberal. He’s conservative but has connections with Louisiana republicans that control the party. Guys like Shane Guidry, Boysie, and others. Guys that don’t have regular voters interest at heart.
