Pigeon care

This morning a lady in our neighborhood was taking a walk, saw a pigeon on the side of the street standing still, and wouldn't move. It has a green band around one of its legs, so it is not just a wild animal. Anyone know the proper care for this kind of bird, including how to find and return it to its owner. Any ornithologists out there by chance?

Some vets will handle the care of wild animals. Have her call around.

Leave it alone. It is someone’s racing pigeon. Let it do its thing.

Since you already took Iron Mike, I'll offer up Ghost Dog.

You better share with us what you find and where it's from.

I looked out my window and saw a Pigeon under my truck last week.
I captured it and it had 2 Bands.
the green one is a Micro Chip that tells what bird was first in a Race back to the Crib. The other band was yellow with a number on it.
Google it and you'll find where the Birds home Base is and contact phone for the owner.
I did and found out the bird was on a 400 mile race .
I fed him raw rice and sugar water as per their instructions.
Released him in a big open field as they suggested.
He did a big loop and landed next to a Gator pond.
I left his butt there.
Gonna be dumb..Better be tough...just sayin

IMO an underrated movie. I find it to be popcorn yet philosophical.

I pulled over to watch a guy release two racing pigeon flocks from his van.
He didn’t like me mentioning that dove season opened that day and wished him luck.

I’ve found 2 in my yard in the past.
First one was dead, tracked down the owner and he was very grateful,Said he hated it when a bird didn’t make it home and he usually didn’t know what happened to it.
Second one was a young bird that belonged to a guy that lived about 30 miles from me.

LSU Vet School - Wildlife Hospital
Louisiana Dept of Wildlife and Fisheries - Injured Wildlife
If you’re in Louisiana, these links will help you get care for the pigeon. If not, your state should have similar programs. Good luck. Keep us updated.
