If we are going to treat college like this with NIL then they should be signing contracts that keep them at the school until they are released from their contracts.

Had this exact conversation the other day with someone who made the "well the coaches can leave whenever they want so the kids should to" argument. Coaches cannot "just leave" whenever they want to. If as a student athlete you sign a deal with a certain school or NIL booster, they should have to pay to buyout their contracts just Like Bama had to pay Washington for CKD's contract.

Wanna transfer? Your new school has to pay your buyout or you can foot the bill yourself. I wonder how many schools would be willing transfer destinations for kids if they had to pay a six figure buyout just to have the right to sign a new NIL deal with a 3rd receiver.

Wanna be treated like grown ups/employees? Fine. But you take the hard pills to swallow along with the easy ones.

Right.

Pros sign contracts and these kids are now being treated like pros.

When you sign…. You’re signing for 2 or 3 years. That would curb some of this.

They already sign one year contracts every season. It’s called an Athletic Aid Agreement.

Then they are employees. Which the schools seem hellbent on avoiding, thus the mess we have now.
