What are big bucks? Under 150k isn't "big bucks." And for the attics and crap they have to put up with it isn't worth it.

If you get to own your own biz it can be very lucrative.

But like I said earlier, not everyone opens their own business. There's a reason, otherwise everyone would do it. And, opening the business earns them what on average? I've seen some of these owners, they aren't that comfortable.

Yup. I have 2 good buddies from college who are highly skilled at what they do and haven't been solidly working since COVID. Were at Facebook, Yahoo, and then Salesforce making $250k+. Now they get some freelance bones thrown their way and are struggling. Tech is definitely a good path for some, but if you're just a hamster, it's not necessarily fool-proof. You need to be very creative and make yourself useful and really that goes for most anything.

Engineers seem to get laid off too frequently as well. And after all of the work they do and the intelligence it takes, that's bullshite.

Yeah for the time being.

Or if you can go to a top 14 law school and do big law (also possible by doing really well at an average school in a big city). But the hours will be grueling.

I think owning your own major construction business, manufacturing, and such is how people become really wealthy but obviously that requires an idea, dedication, good business acumen, and some luck.

My cousin was a mechanical engineer. Worked for Jacobs. My uncle (his dad) was high high high up at Jacobs. My cousin still got laid off. Engineers absolutely go through plenty of layoffs and have to move around all over if they want to move up frequently.

For reference, my wife is a Director of Pharmacy at a hospital. She worked retail for about 10 years before taking a hospital job. We have lots of friends that work as retail pharmacists and two friends that own a community retail pharmacy. Almost all the retail pharmacists we know absolutely hate their job.

The first problem is that pharmacy school is now considered a professional school and tuition is about like medical school tuition. So, lots of graduates racking up hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt……for a job that likely pays around $120k/year. Second, lots more pharmacy schools than there used to be so the market is saturated in a lot of areas. Lots of graduates just hoping to even get a job within driving distance of where they want to live. Third, the dream used to be to own your own retail pharmacy and pull down $500k+ per year and then sell it for a shitload when you were ready to retire at 50-55 years old. Not so now. Our two friends (married couple) that own their pharmacy struggle to pay bills each month. Their pharmacy is busy as frick, yet they would net more income if one got a full-time pharmacist job and the other got a part-time pharmacist job. They will be lucky just to sell their pharmacy some day. It certainly won’t net them the nest egg they were counting on. Finally, pharmacist pay is stagnant and likely will remain so for the foreseeable future.

Again, VERY personality specific.. some people with the most ingenuity and money-making abilities would not last three days in the military since they suck every ounce of individuality out of you.. and it’s by design, that is what’s needed on the battlefield, but not neccessarily in the real world .

Also, you have zero say in what you fight for in the military .. you have to fight whenever and whomever they tell you to…. Lastly, have you seen the suicide rates of ex-military ? No link, but i think it’s amongst the highest of any segment of the population .. Not commenting on the ‘whys’, just the facts as they are .

You have to work your absolute nutsack off to get rich doing this. I’m talking 7 days a week 12 hour days

People see the 50 year old guy that now owns the company. But that dude sold his soul from 18-45

That's good, but he had to bust his arse for years on the lower end I'd bet. I know too many people who work inside comfortably and make that much and more. And, again, he's probably special in his field because he pulled it off.
