Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (NYSE: CMG) today announced that its Board of Directors approved a 50-for-one split of its common stock. This would be one of the biggest stock splits in New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) history.
The stock split is subject to shareholder approval of an amendment to the Company's Certificate of Incorporation to increase the number of authorized shares of common stock to accommodate the stock split. The company intends to seek shareholder approval for this amendment at its upcoming annual meeting on June 6, 2024.
If the Certificate of Incorporation amendment is approved, shareholders of record as of June 18, 2024 will receive 49 additional shares for each share held, which will be distributed after market close on June 25, 2024. Chipotle's shares are expected to begin trading on a post-split basis at the market open on Wednesday, June 26, 2024.

The additional 49 shares is nice but the last time i bought before two splits was Amzn and google and i just broke even after like 2 plus years. Think i will skip the runup this will have up until the actual split.

You can cut a slice of pizza up a hundred times but it’s still just one slice of pizza.

I agree. Good analogy. Studies have shown that it’s just psychological.
With many/most brokers now offering $0 commissions on odd lots and some even fractional share purchases, you’d think most (retail) investors wouldn’t care anymore. But I guess many investors still get a special feeling by being able to own equities in 100 share lots.
The main market that I can see this affecting is the options market, since equity contracts are typically based on 100 shares.

I have about 1/5 of a share Wonder if they’ll toss me any scraps?

Chipotle is one of the few stocks I’ve been successful with as a turnaround
Bought when they had all the bacterial issues hoping that they me get things fixed. They hired new ceo and it’s been glorious ever since.

Great entry point and good investment. You bought about the same time Bill Ackman got involved.
No doubt he’s got a hand in this stock split too. I’m wondering if we’ll see his hedge fund start to reduce the position further as retail scoops it up. It was recently the largest position in the fund and he’s already started trimming down.

I’ve held onto cmg thru the bad times and currently enjoy over 200% return. I’m generally not a fan of splits because lower priced stocks are cheap….

This is exactly why it really matters.
