Wisconsin - Whistling Straits or Sand Valley - very lucky

So our oldest kiddo will be going to summer camp for the first time in Wisconsin this year. When we go to pick her up, we are gonna go early to play golf.
Any opinions on Whistling Straits vs the courses at Sand Valley? Whistling is very pricey but would be so cool. And Sand Valley looks to be an awesome setup and more affordable.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Having recently made the trip to Bandon, and knowing what was built at Sand Valley, that would be my pick. Have you checked availability? It books out pretty far in advance if I understand correctly.

Two years ago my wife got me a golf trip to whistling straits with my two daughters and we had the absolute time of our lives - I can’t recommend it more! Irish Course is also elite and gives great views - it was a bucket list trip for sure. They were redoing some of the restaurants then so it should be a full go this summer - probably can’t go wrong either way - have fun sir!

Are you going with your wife? If so, Kohler. If it is just you, then do Sand Valley.
The Spa at Kohler is supposedly one of the best in the country. Not much to do at Sand Valley other than play golf.

I haven't been to either, but would probably go Sand Valley if all four courses are open.
Does anyone know what the Kohler packages typically run during summer peak season?

We made a trip in 2022 and got to play all of Kohler, both at Sand Valley, and Erin Hills.
If it is just one round of golf, I would recommend Erin Hills. If you can go for one day and get 36 holes in, go to Sand Valley. Both SV and Mammonth are alot of fun.
As the other poster mentioned, if your wife is going and wants something to do while you play golf, Kohler is the answer. Both Erin Hills and Sand Valley are just golf.
All of the courses are awesome however. Don't sleep on Blackwolf Run either.

Sand Valley. Inquire if you can get on the Lido. They have 5 courses now with Sedge Valley opening

They’re pretty far apart so check camp location vs course.

I’d recommend doing the package of Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run River course. The experience of Whistling is worth the extra $$ imo. Kohler is a nice town as well.

Sand valley is pretty much completely booked through the rest of 2024 if trying ti stay on site and play the lido along with the other courses.
That said, if you can do it, I’d go there. If not, whistling and Erin are so good as well. Whistling straits absolutely blew me away.

Headed to Bandon in a week. Any tips?

Whistling Straits would be my choice, and it's not close.

I hope at this point you have well broken in walking shoe style golf shoes. Not foot joy classics. ??.
If you’re playing 36/day, take the opportunity to go either shower or at least soak your feet in hot water and change to fresh socks between rounds
This would be my #1 tip. Makes a huge difference. Stay hydrated and make sure you eat. You’ll be burning way more calories than you might think. The Bandon protien balls are really good
Other than that.. soak it in man. It’s better than you can imagine. Look around a lot take a lot of pics.
The hot pastrami sandwich at Sheep Ranch was the best thing I ate on the trip.
If you’re in a group, you may want to buy a pin flag and have everyone sign it at dinner one night. All the rest of the logo stuff will eventually get used up and put away, but the flag can go on your wall forever.

Thanks a ton for the feedback. My wife got a tee time for me at Whistling Straits. I also ran into someone today that has played it and was blown away like many of you.
I’m really looking forward to it!
Thanks for the help!

Have not been to Whistling yet but did Sand Valley a few years back. It was fantastic! Plus they have opened another course.
Also did Erin Hills on that trip. My favorite (not the best) course i've ever played.
