Company restructured pay bands

I now find myself 33k above the top of my band and 17k above the top of the next band. Many of us are in a similar situation. We now become ineligible for raises. I was 16k under the top of the band previously. Is this a move to push the higher earners out? Thoughts?

Are you overpaid relative to competitors in the industry? Could be a variety of reasons behind this corporate change. Either way, it wouldn’t make me feel great about my position at the company if they think you are overpaid this much.

De facto, the company is saying you are overpaid for whatever it is you do. If they've done that to everyone, then it's their way of reclaiming wage increases over the past few years perhaps? If you are truly worth more than what they're paying, then maybe they're hoping you leave. Who knows? Nothing would surprise me.

We have the same thing. Once you are above your pay range, you get a one time payment rather than a merit raise

You are overpaid in their eyes. I assume you have been there forever, have a bunch of knowledge of the history of change there, but are somewhat coasting, have an easy job.
This is their way to push you out or force you to skill up.

Absolutely. Your job security is poor right now.

I got laid off Jan 5 after being told mid last year I was top value in pay band.
Our firm (EY) had not and has not been doing well. I’m sure there are more cuts on the horizon for them.
Update your resume and start getting lunch with people in your extended network.

Yeh, they will just move the bands. Happened at jobs I’d been at for a while too.
ETA: but update your resume and start taking company secrets.

Maybe not both.

Spot on, not necessarily easy however a promotion isn’t likely in the cards….I'm way too white, heterosexual, and male….I have one interview set up for Tuesday externally and working on another….I talked to someone in another department and they are already pitching the lateral move..although in that department I still fit under the max of the band…..guess what he just hired in higher roles….zero males and not all heterosexuals either….
