When eating out, I always try and sit facing the entrance. No idea when or why it started but it irks me having my back turned like that.

Years ago I was told by a very wise, long term bar owner to, "Always sit facing the door. You never know what's gonna walk through there at any time"
30+ years later and I still follow that advice. And I've taught my kids the same.

restaurant seating corollary
I can’t stand sitting in a booth. Host always looks at me weird when I insist on a table. And at the table, if it’s 2 at a 4 top, and you aren’t my wife, you are sitting across from me, not at the side

I’m going to venture a guess that you are married and have children and in general are very protective of your family and mindful of there safety in various situations.
I do the same thing. I want to be able to see who is walking into the restaurant.
Side note*** Wild Bill Hickock while playing cards in any saloon always sat with his back towards a wall and facing the door so. I one could sneak up on him. The one time he didn’t, he was shot in the back.

quote:. Feel like I always have done this. It’s a protective thing. Also, when we are staying in a hotel, I sleep on the side of the bed closest to the door or balcony door if ground level
