Age old question i know.
Any spin type feeders actually hold up? Except the high dollar models.
Gravity type run the feed bill way up? Still cheaper than pouring it the ground though I guess
Or is it just cheaper in the long run to buy a high dollar spinner?

600 lb stand and fill from Lamco is what I’ll be buying from now on. I’ve got 2 600lb stand and fill ASF and they are good but I like my 600lb Lamco from tractor supply better.
Don’t buy that cheap academy bullshite because it won’t last. I’ve got a 600lb game winner on a place and it’s rusting apart.

When I was a kid, there was a small deer in a cage between Ferriday and where my grandfather's camp was. We always wanted to stop and feed it. We fed it Nabs with peanut butter or cheese. Some idiots fed it cigarettes.

The best way to feed deer is by planting food plots rather than using mechanical feeding devices etcetera.
Feeding animals in concentrated groups only contributes to the spread of diseases. With the current expansion of chronic wasting disease it is imperative that we all do what we can to reduce the opportunity for it spreading.

I am moving to high dollar large capacity with good solar panels feeders this year. Moultrie feeders from academy/walmart will do ok but I’m tired of having to fill them often and the small solar panels really don’t cut it for what I’m looking for.

Put money in plot. Summer and winter. Try to keep clover plot year round…stay out of woods fooling with feeders…. We’ve seen and killed bigger bucks with this approach…

What features of the Lamco do you like better than the ASF?
I have 2 ASF’s now and they are tough to beat.

They are shorter and make it easier to fill for the smaller folks than the ASF. Also l prefer the way it throws the corn out further vs hitting the cage and dropping right next to the feeder on the ASF. I’m worried about the hinges breaking on the door to open the cage on the ASF and won’t have that problem on the Lamco. The timer and battery is higher and easier to get to then the ASF also.

I’d guess you’re in TX?
Nobody around here sells them Lamco

Got bad news.Study released Feb 22,2024 by University Minnesota (CIDRAP) found that plants can take up CWD -causing prions from soil.
Alfalfa and Barley accumulated prions from contaminated soil in above ground tissues, mice that ate the plant material developed prion disease.
Hopefully, someone can find the study and link it.I’m too dumb.

The best way is the answer people don’t want to hear for some reason
Timber Stand Improvement TSI
Food plots can only feed so much. And they come with their own issues.
Remove the right trees, burn and keep in a schedule allowing light to hit the ground and you’ll eventually have a forest full of fat deer with plenty of places to bed and hide their young.
TLDR: cut down trees and burn. Forage produces 100x more food sources

“TSI”
That is a very good way to have a quality deer herd if one owns a fairly large piece of property.Problem is majority of people are forced to join leases, most cases it’s from a timber company.Others hunt WMA’s.
Timber company isn’t going to let their lessees practice any type of TSI.
Many of them have gotten away from burning,it’s mostly spraying herbicides, which isn’t great for forb production.
Leases I’ve been on did allow some food plots but that was limited.
In my case I own about 150 acres and it was as a sacrifice to pay for it and to pay for tree planting.I didn’t have deep enough pockets to manage it strictly for deer.I more or less felt obligated to try and recoup my investment.I was hoping to make some money for retirement income, that hasn’t happened but at this point I’ve about broken even.
I do some TSI and burning but it’s also food plots and corn feeders.

I think the question was really meant as in “Supplemental Feeding”.
I use gravity feeders and a couple bunk feeders. I am slowing switching to the
1,200 lbs gravity feeders from Texas Hunter protein feeders. I have 2 and haven’t had any issues. I have 12 more to get over time.

Supplemental feeding I use Sweeney 300lb broadcast feeders with hog excluders

If you’re talking about feeding protein just know you cannot let the feeders go empty. It’s a full commitment and is very expensive. On my 300 acres I was going through a pallet a week. If I did it again I would get a wagon with a blower and buy protein in bulk. You have to use gravity feeders and troughs. They stuff can’t be broadcast on the ground. I did it for 4 years. You could definitely see the benefits but I moved away from it to food plots with high protein. Hell of a lot cheaper
