The first one of these or the first one from the 80's?
The one from the 80's flopped pretty hard at the box office. Honestly, I've always found it hard to get through in one sitting. Once they start whisper-thinking everything, I just tune it out. I think the only reason it still gets talked about is because it's part of the David Lynch catalog and because it has so many iconic actors in it (and Sting).
These new ones follow a modern trend in film. They assault the senses of the viewer in lieu of any real potency. Plus, they keep trying to shove Chalamet up our asses, and it's just not going to happen, not organically anyway.

I thought Chalamet was an interesting choice but he was able to have a weirdly commanding presence for a 90 pound twink

First one of these. Just was curious on the reasoning behind the "no staying power" argument. It's pretty clear part one has staying power, not sure why this one wouldn't when the majority seem to think it was better than part one. Obviously the hype it is getting is going to die down but I don't think you're going to have some mass amount of people in a year or two start thinking "you know, that movie atually wasn't that good."

Yea it's not really my jam either, and I'm a Lynch fan.
