Before I go up there… all I have to do is shut off the same breaker as before? No other breaker I don’t know about? I assume that’s not a stupid question even though that breaker shut down the air earlier

This would be my guess - when I upgraded to a smart thermostat - I needed to connect the blue (common) wire to the control/circuit board in the furnace. It would not be connected if the blue common wire wasn’t used/connected with your old thermostat.

There should be a diagram that labels the c terminal on the panel.

ETA

Nm, I see it marked at the end where the white wire is.

I was today years old when I learned “common” was just another term for “neutral”. So I’m guessing it’s ok to add that blue wire to the C Terminal with the white
